Does Vietnam Shake Its Position In The US Textile And Clothing Industry?
Will Vietnam become the new major clothing and textile product supply base of the United States in 2009? Can it shake China's position in the US textile and clothing industry? In the past 30 years, China has always been the largest supplier of clothing, textiles and shoes to the United States, and has always played a very competent supplier role. However, at present, with the gradual increase of labor prices in China and the enhancement of monetary liquidity, many commodity prices have risen. Therefore, many countries, including the United States, are actively looking for a way out.
In the selection of raw materials, textile and garment enterprises need to consider many issues in order to reduce costs. These include: policy based tariff reduction and exemption, lagging logistics services, energy shortage, raw material shortage and chemical standards testing. After considering the above problems, many American enterprises have set their sights on Vietnam, the world's emerging textile and clothing market. Since 2007, when Vietnam, a Southeast Asian country, joined the World Trade Organization, Vietnamese textile and garment enterprises have sprung up in the country. At present, Vietnam has replaced Mexico as the second largest textile and clothing supplier of the United States. According to the survey at the end of 2008, Vietnam exported about 5.3 billion dollars worth of clothing and textile products to the United States this year, an increase of 26% over the same period in 2007.
However, there is no consensus on whether Vietnam should be a new supply base. In order to ensure the stability of its own supply of goods, the United States must set up production management organizations in the enterprises of the producing countries in order to control the supply of raw materials. The United States must also provide professional training for its suppliers in Vietnam. At the same time, they should always monitor the operation of the enterprise, because the enterprise has problems of one kind or another at any time. If the investment of the United States in Vietnam's textile and clothing enterprises is rewarded and the product quality is guaranteed, then the investment of the United States is valuable.
