Production Costs Of Bangladesh Jute Increased By 45%
Due to high fuel prices, the production cost of Bangladesh jute products has increased by 45% per ton.
Bangladesh is the world's largest jute producing country. There are more than 60 jute textile factories throughout the country. It produces nearly 350 thousand tons of jute yarn per year, of which 290 thousand tons are exported, mainly exported to Turkey, Iran, the United States and Belgium.
Jute is the third largest export product of Bangladesh, only after the export of garments and frozen food.
In the financial year of Meng 2007-08, the export of jute yarn and jute rope was US $200 million, and this year's export target was US $217 million. However, due to the impact of the US recession and the US threat to Iran, the export market has shrunk and production costs have increased.
