EU Revisions Of Textile Names

A few days ago, the EU issued directive No. 2008/121/EC to revise the directive No. 96/74/EC on textile names, and put forward new and higher requirements for textile fiber names, textile label contents and other markings in three aspects.

It is understood that the names of textiles, fiber components and labels are not consistent with the contents of the label, the label is not obvious or ambiguous, manufacturers did not clearly identify the names and materials of fiber components in the relevant documents will be classified as unqualified.

The new directive also made specific quantitative requirements for fiber types and their contents, which are important indicators of textile quality.

In addition, one of the textiles containing more than 85% of the total weight must be specified in three ways as follows: the name of the main fiber, the proportion of total weight, the name of the main fiber and the word "at least 85%", or the proportion of the fibers contained in the product.

Containing a variety of fibers, but not a total weight of 85%, the product must be marked with at least two main fiber names and their ratios, and the names of other fibers should be listed from a large to a small scale.

In accordance with the new regulations of the European Union, the inspection and Quarantine Department reminded the relevant enterprises to seriously interpret the new EU regulations, focus on the major revisions and changes of the new version of the directive, consult with the local inspection and quarantine institutions before production or export, specify the fiber content and type according to the regulations, use the standard terms and names specified in the order, avoid improper use, and actively consult with the EU importers, conduct effective communication, and jointly seek solutions to problems so as to ensure the smooth passage of European textiles.
