The First Kapok Development Seminar In China Will Become An Environmentally Friendly Sunrise Industry.

At the first China kapok development seminar held in Gejiu City, Yunnan Province in March 20th, the academicians and experts and scholars of the two chambers put forward that the kapok industry will be an emerging environment-friendly sunrise industry. Vigorously developing the kapok industry will promote the eight provinces and autonomous regions that are suitable for planting kapok to vigorously carry out the control of rocky desertification, accelerate the pace of increasing farmers' income in the backward areas of the west, and promote the new development advantages of our textile industry, and achieve the best effect of the unity of ecological, social and economic benefits.

The seminar called on the relevant ministries and commissions of the state to include the development of kapok industry and desertification land into the national economic and social development plan, and vigorously support the land use, tax policy and public welfare investment.

The seminar was sponsored by the China foundation for desertification control, the Yunnan forestry department and the Honghe people's government.

At present, this technology has been initially applied to the industrialization of kapok in Yunnan Gejiu.

However, planting kapok can make use of rocky desertification mountain areas and saline alkali soil in eight provinces and autonomous regions such as Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and Guangxi to control desertification and improve the ecological environment and to open up new channels for increasing income for farmers in poor areas.

According to the introduction, the kapok, known as "hero tree" and "hero flower", is widely planted in parks, courtyards, town streets and main roads as ornamental trees because of its straight trunk, smooth branches, beautiful natural trees and bright red flowers.

But kapok fiber products have natural antibacterial, moth proofing, mildew proofing, mites removal, breathability, skin care and other characteristics, and have good potential for processing high-grade textiles.

Yan Guoxin, a Yunnan educated youth who had jumped in Shanghai, and so on, after years of unremitting hardship and exploration, finally created the world's unique new spinning technology in 2003. Seven authorized invention patents were obtained after evaluation by authoritative experts.

After its successful development in China, kapok high-end textiles have attracted great attention from the international textile industry.

Chinese enterprises have gained a rare say in the international textile industry.

At present, the Red River State and Gejiu City, which have initially realized the industrialization of kapok, have submitted to the state to support the kapok industry as a key industry in the economic pformation of the old and exhausted resource cities.

Experts at the meeting pointed out that desertification land can not only govern, but also make great contributions to the protection of national ecological security, food security and energy security.

Yunnan and eight neighboring provinces in the South can develop kapok over 20 million acres.

As one of the original sites of kapok, Yunnan has a wide distribution of natural kapok and is most common in the valley area below 1000 meters above sea level. The land suitable for planting kapok Valley and low altitude rocky desertification mountainous areas in the province is rich, and the area of kapok can reach more than 10 million mu.
