India Raises Clothing Export Prices

Almost half of India's textile and clothing exports are exported to the US and European countries. The appreciation of the rupee has led to the exporters' profit margins and export targets out of control.

The flow of foreign currency in the stock market increased on Monday, with the rupee in India reaching 44.97 against the dollar, a new 18 - month high and 61.76 to the euro.

Over the past 5 months, the domestic currency has appreciated nearly 14.5% against the euro, and has appreciated more than 5% against the US dollar.

What makes the textile industry even more painful is that in the past 6 months, cotton and cotton yarn prices have increased by 20-25%, and exports to Bangladesh, South Korea and China have increased.

The price of cotton in March 2010 increased by more than 2% to 27800 rupees /candy compared to the 23200 rupee /candy in July 2009.

The price of cotton yarn increased by 25% to 175 rupees / kg, compared with 140 rupees / kg in the same period last year.
