1) EPA introduction:

EPA is the English abbreviation of U.S Environmental Protection Agency.

Its main task is to protect human health and the natural environment.

Headquartered in Washington, there are 10 local offices and dozens of laboratories.

There are 18000 employees in the United States.

More than half of them are engineers, scientists and policy analysts.

Responsible for setting up national standards for many environmental projects, monitoring the implementation and compliance of mandatory standards.

EPA has issued a series of commercial and industrial licenses jointly with the state and local governments.

2) the scope of EPA certification:

Diesel / gasoline engine equipment, weeding machine, fridge, water heater, radio, microwave oven, X ray machine and so on.

3) NVFEL (national vehicle and fuel emissions laboratory):

NVFEL is an organization of EPA traffic and air quality office (OTAQ), which is responsible for enforcing laws governing motor vehicles, engines and fuel air pollution.

The main responsibilities of the laboratory include:

? develop national adjustment projects to reduce air pollution associated with mobile sources, including light cars and trucks, heavy trucks and buses, non road engines and vehicles, and fuels.

Assessment of emission control technologies.

Provide information on state and local air quality standards and pport plans, as well as information on pport projects and spontaneous projects.

Testing vehicles, engines and fuels.

Determine the conformity of Federal Emissions and fuel economy standards.

The lab was established in 1971 at Ann Arbor, Michigan.

There are 400 employees.

The NVFEL laboratory provides testing of motor vehicles, heavy duty engines, and non road engine projects.

Testing activities include:

Proving that vehicles and engines comply with federal emission and fuel economy standards.

Testing the compliance of engine in use

Analysis of fuels, fuel additives and emission compounds
