Soccer player Alexander Pato, former South African International Sean Bartlett and Nike, the world's largest football company, unveiled the new football community training center in South Africa. Over the course of a year, the centre will provide football skills training for 20000 young soccer fans. The center will also popularize AIDS prevention education through football community projects.
"Nike has always been inspired by the power of sports to motivate people to change their lives," said Mark Parke, President and chief executive of Nike. "The new football training center will create permanent soccer resources for the sovito community. It will not only provide first-rate training for young soccer enthusiasts, but will also help them improve their knowledge of AIDS through introducing some common sense of life skills."
Representatives from the government of South Africa, leaders and players from local and economic sectors came to the scene to express their support for the completion of the new football training centre.
"Johannesburg has always emphasized that the isolated work of the government is not conducive to solving the complicated disputes in our society today. In order to solve these problems better, we need to cooperate with all levels of the government, including civil society organizations, economic and community sectors," said Amos mayassor, mayor of Johannesburg.
"Johannesburg is very honored to be able to usher in a world-class soccer training center. Community football projects can unite people, and more importantly, inspire thousands of young soccer fans to serve the country," Amos marsondo said.
Sean, Bartlett, a former South African soccer player, said: "this football training program has far-reaching significance for the future development of football in South Africa. It can help players improve their football level and make them more organized both on and off the field. Of course, we hope that the children who participate in this training program can make progress and success."
The newly completed training center has been adhering to Nike's 15 year commitment to the South African community plan. It is also a continuation of Nike's (RED) Co sponsored "red shoes, love" campaign, which aims to fight AIDS in Africa with the aid of sports. Consumers only need to purchase a pair of RED shoelaces to participate in this operation, providing support for education and medical projects in Africa, and mobilizing young people in the world to join the fight against AIDS in Africa.
The funds raised by Nike in collaboration with (RED) in the first six months are also announced today. 26 community football projects in 16 African countries will share 450 thousand dollars in relief funds, with the help of sports power to popularize the awareness of AIDS prevention among young people.
"HIV virus and AIDS have been important medical issues in South Africa. We cherish cooperation with all public organizations and individuals to help us fight for a long period of time," said Aaron F Sola Di, South African Minister of health. "Nike has provided us with a good example to combine football, education and health care, and to urge young people to restrain themselves from AIDS through the power of movement."
Over the years, Nike has been committed to protecting the world and Africa in terms of AIDS. They will work with existing partners such as non profit organizations, and continue to promote the development of AIDS protection in South Africa with the help of football and sports.
