Amazon Will Launch Apparel Shoes Online Retail Business
Amazon, the world's largest online retailer, plans to launch its online clothing and footwear business in a high-end fashion to compete with Yoox and Net-A-Porter in the online fashion market, according to the financial times 20 news.
According to Forrester Research, last year, sales of apparel and footwear in the United States rose 17% to $27 billion.
Its growth rate is faster than that of other types of products, for example, its growth will exceed that of electronic products in the next five years.
Amazon, in the recruitment of software engineers, said that it would build a "good new product and change the way people buy clothes" with retailers, requiring engineers to have good graphic design experience and high-end fashion retail experience.
Amazon's move to fashion products is very similar to Ebay. Last year, Ebay's sales of online clothing and footwear products totaled $5 billion 500 million.
Dinesh Lathi, Ebay's marketing department, said the company believes there are "excellent opportunities for growth" in such products.
Sucharita Mulpuru, an analyst at Forrester, said that Amazon and Ebay both adopt innovative ways to increase their number of special clothing pages, so as to keep the growth of classification. "People need more pictures when purchasing, and richer pictures can explain the beauty of the whole product."
Last year, online luxury sales in the US were growing at a time when consumers were frugal. People turned to Gilt, Hautelook and Rue La La to buy discount products.
Amazon did not give product classification data.
Nevertheless, Scot Wingo, head of ChannelAdvisor, which supports Amazon and Ebay third party sales, said sales of clothes and shoes would bring Amazon $60-80 in revenue.
Amazon's annual revenue last year was $24 billion 500 million.
In November last year, Amazon gave a free return option for orders of more than $25, which imitated Zappos.
Zappos has gained rapid growth through similar ways. It has been acquired by Amazon.
In addition, Amazon will also enhance the user's purchasing experience, such as enlarging, multi viewing, changing colors, and so on.
