US Imports Growth In The First Quarter
According to the recent report of the "textile world network", the overall economic environment of the United States is gradually improving, and the import and export trade of textiles and clothing has also improved significantly. Government trade figures for the first quarter of this year showed that yarn exports increased by 23% over the same period in 2009, while fabric exports increased by 19%. Meanwhile, clothing imports increased by 11%, yarn imports increased by 18%, and fabric imports increased by 19%.
In all kinds of clothing trade, trade with China continues to dominate, accounting for 80% of the growth of clothing imports in the United States. In addition, the volume of clothing imports from the Central American free trade agreement with the Republic of Dominica has increased by 9%, and the import volume from Mexico has also increased by 9%. The garments imported from these two regions want to be duty-free, and the products must contain yarn or fabric produced in the United States or other countries in the region.
What concerns us textile manufacturers most is that the import trade with China is mostly concentrated in the so-called "sensitive category", including underwear, trousers and knitted shirts, whose import quotas were abolished in January 2009. The US imports from China surged by 55%, while global trade increased by only 7%.
