Due to the recent continuous high temperature weather in the province, 76% of the counties (cities) in the province have suffered from varying degrees of drought, of which 45% are moderate to severe drought. If the high temperature weather continues, the area of severe drought in Shanxi Province will gradually expand.

Since June, the precipitation in most areas of Shanxi Province is relatively low, and the average precipitation of the whole province is more than 60% less. Especially since the middle of June, the average temperature of the whole province has been 24 ℃, 2.3 ℃ higher than the average, the extreme maximum temperature is all above 30 ℃, and most of the southern regions are above 35 ℃, while the average precipitation of the whole province is only 4.1 mm, nearly 80% less than the average, especially in the central and southern regions. At present, 76% of the counties (cities) in the province have experienced varying degrees of drought, of which 45% are moderate to severe drought, mainly in central Datong, central and western Xinzhou, most of Taiyuan, western Luliang and southern Jinzhong, most of Linfen, northeastern Changzhi, northwestern Jincheng and northern Yuncheng. The heavily arid areas are mainly in Datong, Xinzhou, Shuozhou, Taiyuan, Luliang, Linfen, Yuncheng and Jincheng. According to the forecast of the provincial meteorological observatory, the hot weather will continue in the coming week, so the scope of arid areas in Shanxi Province will be further expanded.

Wang Zhiwei, deputy director of the provincial climate center, said: drought and high temperature weather are very bad for mature wheat in central and southeast parts of China. We should prevent dry and hot wind; In addition, some spring maize in our province have started jointing, cotton has entered the budding period, peanuts have entered the flowering period, and various economic forest and fruit crops are in the fruit expansion period, which requires high water content. All regions should pay attention to drought prevention, drought resistance, disease and insect prevention at any time.
