EDANA Report 2009 Decline In Nonwovens Production

According to the report of the European nonwovens Association (EDANA), the European nonwoven industry collapsed in 2009.

According to the report, the production of nonwovens has decreased by 6.3% from 2008 to 16 billion tons, due to the challenges of the economic environment and the weight reduction of products.

After several years of double-digit growth, the weight of nonwovens has been greatly reduced in 2009, because it is mainly used for personal care.

This shows that although the production figures in terms of weight decrease, the number of square metres in manufacturing sector continues to rise.

Compared with the selected enterprise groups in 2008 and 2009, the total price of Nonwovens in 2008 and 2009 was almost unaffected.

Jacques Prigneux, head of market analysis and economic affairs at EDANA, said that despite the slowdown in trade exports and imports in 2009, the EU's 27 countries' trade balance of nonwoven fabric products continued to be optimistic in terms of value and quantity.

In addition, the 27 EU countries continue to maintain a net exporter status in terms of non-woven sub categories.

The balance of trade is optimistic, helping to ease the emergence of trade in the European textile industry.

However, the most obvious reduction in the tonnage of polymer based nonwoven fabrics was observed.

Moreover, although the delivery volume of non-woven fabrics in health care business has been reduced by nearly 2%, so far, the Department's health care business still occupies the largest market share of the non manufacturing industry in terms of weight and area.
