World Carbon Fiber Demand Continues To Heat Up: Production Giants Are Picking Up New Business Opportunities.

    2010/8/5 14:25:00 52

    World Carbon Fiber

    Although the Post Crisis Era

    world economy

Development is facing many challenges, but the demand for carbon fiber is still heating up.

In addition to the traditional aerospace industry, new markets for carbon fibers, such as automobiles, wind turbine blades and pressure vessels, are emerging.

Experts predict that the world's carbon fiber demand will grow at a rate of about 13% per year. Next year, the global demand for PAN based carbon fiber will reach 50 thousand tons. By 2012, it will reach 60 thousand tons, and the demand is expected to reach 100 thousand tons by 2018.

Seven big carbon fiber manufacturers (Dongli, Toho, MITSUBISHI Liyang, SGL, Hexcel, Cytec and Zoltek) have announced plans to expand 78% over the next 3~5 years, with a total investment of about $1 billion 300 million.

The demand for bituminous carbon fiber in the industrial field is also increasing, especially in the environment related industries. The market size is about 3000 tons, and it is expected to expand to 4000 tons by 2012.

Therefore, some experts point out that the supply of carbon fiber may exceed demand in 2012.

    Traditional market

    Increasing application ratio

    Aerospace is the world.

    carbon fibre

In the traditional application market, the new super large passenger Airbus A380 and Boeing 787 used epoxy resin impregnated carbon fiber or carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) as the main structural materials.

Carbon fiber composites account for more than 20% of the A380 aircraft's 35 tons of structural materials, including the central wing box, tail assembly and ballast wall. In Boeing 787, nearly 50% of structural materials need carbon fiber reinforced plastics and fiberglass reinforced plastics, including the main wing and fuselage.

Boeing's 787 Dreamliner has recently completed its first test flight outside the United States, according to British media.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner embodies the characteristics of environmental protection and green, which saves 20% of fuel compared with similar aircraft.

At present, Boeing has received orders for 860 Boeing 787 Dreamliner from 56 countries.

The possibility of damage caused by metal corrosion is reduced, and the life span of each aircraft may reach 50 years.

European Airbus Company announced earlier that carbon fiber

    Compound material

It will be widely used in the new generation of jetliner A350XWB for main wing and fuselage materials, which is scheduled to be put into operation in 2013.

The Airbus Company has entered into a long-term supply contract with Hirsch composites for the A350XWB main structure of the long-range wide body aircraft, requiring Hirsch composites to supply carbon fiber composites until 2025.

The contract is expected to generate 4 billion to 5 billion dollars in revenue for Hertz's composites.

Hirsch composites will significantly increase investment to expand production capacity to meet the growing A350 orders.

Composite materials and components will be produced by Hertz composites in factories in the United States, France, Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom.

The demand for carbon fiber in small and medium sized jets will also increase rapidly. For example, MITSUBISHI heavy industries plans to use carbon fiber composite materials to produce a new generation of regional jet MRJ main wing and tail components. The model is expected to enter the market in 2013.

    Fan blade market application second

The low cost of wind power generation has become an important field of human development of new energy.

The industry expects that the market demand of wind power will increase by 15% to 20% per year in the next 5 years.

As far as wind energy is concerned, Vestas, a Danish fan manufacturer, predicts that by 2020, the share of wind power will reach 10% in the global electricity consumption.

The company has used carbon fibers in the load reinforcement rods of fan blades. So far, nearly 34 thousand sets of fan systems have been installed.

Spain's Gamesa also claims that a large number of wind turbine orders have been received, and some of them have been installed.

Wind power applications will promote the growth of large tow (24K) carbon fiber production.

The global demand for clean energy will also promote the continued investment of end product manufacturers.

After 2010, the application of carbon fiber in fan blades will become the second major applications after Aeronautics and Astronautics. Europe and Asia are ahead of the United States in this field.

The growth rate of installed capacity of global fans is accelerating. Large capacity fans made of long blades with high carbon fiber content will become the main trend.

    Carbon fiber in

    Automobile industry

The prospect of demand is also more optimistic.

Carbon fiber composite drive shaft, tail and engine cover have been widely used in the automotive industry. Although they are mainly used in luxury cars, they are expected to be popularized in the future.

Nissan, Honda and Dongli will jointly develop new carbon fiber materials for vehicle body.

The cooperative enterprises also include MITSUBISHI Li Yang and Dongyang textile. The goal is to start mass production before 2015, so that the carbody is lighter than 40% of the steel users.

The Japanese government also supports the plan and plans to invest $18 million 500 thousand in the next 5 years, hoping to take the lead in the development of environmentally friendly vehicles worldwide.

Japan's Wu Yu company, which has a market share of 50% in the field of carbon fiber forming insulation, has announced that it will increase its insulation equipment in China by 2012. When the relevant projects are put into operation, it will expand by about 3 times than the current capacity, and will increase sales by 1 times, to 12 billion yen.

    Circulating carbon fiber environment friendly

Carbon fiber products are widely used in special fields, and their service life and renewal cycle are strictly required. A large number of abandoned carbon fiber products need to be dealt with urgently.

According to Japanese MITSUBISHI rayon estimates, the world's discarded CFRP is about 10 thousand tons and will reach 20 thousand tons at the end of 2010.

For environmentally friendly considerations, developed countries have started recycling carbon fiber.

The new technology developed by the German Thuringian (TITK) institute does not use tear treatment to obtain carbon fibers of length equal to 20mm from waste carbon fiber textiles. After two years of research and experiments, the Spanish INASMET pportation safety agency has developed a new way to recycle and reuse CF- epoxy resin composites by chemical and pyrolysis technology, and its recovered products can be used in general CFRP.

Dongli, Japan, Tokyo, Japan and MITSUBISHI Liyang plan to jointly produce large-scale recycled carbon fibers in order to promote the recovery and utilization of high-strength and lightweight materials.

These 3 enterprises share the market share of the global carbon fiber 70%.

They have established a joint venture in 2009 to recycle and recycle carbon fibers from aircraft and other equipment.

They also plan to invite other carbon fiber manufacturers such as MITSUBISHI plastics and Wu Yu to cooperate.

Automobile manufacturers regard carbon fiber as a lightweight automotive material. With the help of Dongli and some other companies, recycled carbon fibers will be further applied, materials and parts.

    Recyclable ingredients

    It will improve.
