Bangladesh Revisions Wage Structure System For Domestic Garment Industry

Media NEWAGE recently reported that the Bangladesh government has announced that it will modify the wage structure system of the domestic garment industry, which is the result of the unanimous discussion of the three party minimum wage board.
However, workers will have to wait for 3 months at least to enjoy the new salary, because employers need time to re sign labor contracts with workers.
The news was announced by Khandaker Mosharraf Hossian, Minister of labor at Bangladesh, at a recent press conference, including the chairman of the Remuneration Committee Ikteder Ahmed, AKAzad, chairman of the Bangladesh Federation of Commerce and industry (FBCCI), the Abdus Salam Murshedy of the Bangladesh Apparel Export Association (BGMEA), and the chairman of the Bangladesh knitwear producer and exporter Association.
According to the new wage structure system, from November this year, the minimum wage of workers will be raised from the minimum wage of 1662 Taka (about 166 yuan) in 2006 to a minimum of 3000 Taka (about 300 yuan).
It is reported that the new wage structure is divided into 7 levels and the seventh level is the minimum wage level.
The sixth tier salary will rise from 1851 Taka to 3210 Taka, and the fifth level salary will rise from 2046 Taka to 3455 Taka. The fourth grade salary will rise from 2250 Taka to 3763 Taka, third grade salary will rise from 2449 Taka to that of Taka, and the wage will rise from Taka to ttaka, and the salary will rise from Taka to tuctaka.

It will take effect 14 days after publication in the official gazette of the government.
In the meantime, according to the law, either side of the employer or the worker can raise objections to the board.
During the signing of the agreement, factory owners visited the government and the wage board, hoping to delay the implementation of the new wage policy for 4 months and seek new industrial stimulus policies.
Finally, the government agreed to delay the implementation of the new wage system for 3 months.
The Minister of labor said that the new wage system should have been implemented second weeks before September.

Garment industry workers also said that due to the delay in the implementation of the wage system, 25 million workers will not be able to get paid wages and holiday bonus during the festival.
