    Sheyang County: Three Major Causes To Accelerate Cotton Growth Process

    According to the caliber of big peach 1:1, small bell 2:1, flower 3:1 and bud 5:1, as of August 15th, 60% of the cotton bolls in the cotton fields increased in the county compared with the same period last year, and 25% of the cotton bolls in the cotton fields were basically the same as last year. Only 15% of the bolls in the cotton fields were slightly less than those of the same period last year.

    On the weighted average, the number of bolls per plant reached 24.26, 23.31 more than the same period last year, 0.95.

    According to the analysis of the agricultural technology department and the cotton growers, the three main reasons for accelerating the growth and development of cotton at the latest stage are favorable meteorological conditions, solid training measures and increased investment in physical and chemical inputs.


    First, favorable meteorological conditions.

    From July 1st to August 15th, the highest daily temperature reached or exceeded 30 degrees Celsius in 38 months, of which 13 days were observed in the high temperature above 35 degrees Celsius, with a daily average temperature of 28.1 degrees, which was 2.08 degrees higher than that of the same period last year.

    The accumulated rainfall is 237 millimeters, although it is only about 17 millimeters lower than that of the same period last year. However, the distribution period of precipitation is relatively balanced this year, and the process precipitation mainly consists of showers or thundershowers. Most rainy days have shorter precipitation time, and no daily rainfall of more than 40 mm has been observed.

    Good weather conditions provide a favorable environment for the pformation of cotton seedlings and the quickening of the growth process.

    Fine straw culture in cotton fields is one of the important means to capture high yield of cotton.

    Since the beginning of this year, as the price of grain has been raised again in the country, the market prices of other major agricultural products are also rising. There is still a big gap in the domestic cotton textile industry. Cotton growers are more optimistic about the purchase price of the new cotton this year, and then enhance seed cotton and cotton management, and make full use of high-yielding cultivation techniques, and do everything possible to win the confidence of stable and high yield of cotton.

    From weeding and loosening the soil, raising the soil to the roots, clearing the gully, improving the moisture content, draining the waterlogging and reducing the stains, from diseases and insect pests prevention to the scientific application of chemical pformation, from pruning to sprouting to timely topping, the rings can be buckled tightly.

    The field microclimate favorable for cotton growth was better molded, and the daily growth of fruit branches, fruit nodes, buds, flowers and bolls increased significantly.

    From August 6th to 10, the daily growth of bud and bell reached 1.8 and 0.55 respectively.

    Although the actual planting area of cotton in this county has decreased by about 9% over the past year, all farmers who have planted cotton have pursued the goal of achieving high yield of cotton and increased the cost of physicochemical cost to varying degrees.

    First, the planting area of plastic film cotton has been expanded.

    This year, the area of plastic film pplanting in the county is around 300 thousand mu, accounting for 60% of the total cotton planting area, an increase of 20 percentage points over last year, which effectively enhanced the ability to resist adverse growth environment at an early stage.

    The two is to increase the amount of fertilizer.

    In particular, the flower boll fertilizer has adopted the strategy of "heavy application". The urea application per mu is more than 35 kilograms, an increase of 10-15 kg over last year. Some cotton farmers also applied 10 kg of top cover fertilizer before and after the "topping" in early August, which basically guaranteed the nutrient demand of cotton during the flowering period and subsequent growth.

    Three is to increase the intensity of pest control.

    According to the information provided by the plant protection department of the county, the three generation of cotton bollworm and the three generation of the genus bugs were light or moderate in this year. Some common pests such as red spider and cotton aphid occur frequently.

    As for cotton and Verticillium wilt, early prevention and control measures were adopted in the fields such as serious disease fields, high resistance varieties, drainage and treatment, and medicament treatment. Although there were obvious symptoms at present, there were few diseases and low mortality.


    Judging from the current situation, as long as there are no major natural disasters in the future, the average yield per mu is likely to exceed that of the previous year.

    But there is still a time to cotton picking now. There are still many factors that affect and restrict cotton production in the middle and later stages.


    The county station has put forward suggestions for strengthening the management of cotton fields in the middle and later stages. It is clear that we should further do a good job in laying stress on various measures for cotton production, promote the development of cotton in the right direction, pay attention to the prevention of natural disasters and the prevention and control of pests and diseases, and strive to win the full harvest of cotton production this year.
