Graduate Student Suspension And Entrepreneurship Pplive

In the cafe looking for Yao Xin, the reporter did not dare to confirm that the handsome boy who looked like an ordinary student and who was playing the mobile phone on the sofa was not he, the round sofa was slightly narrow in his body.

    Who is Yao Xin?

From the junior high school, he worshipped Bill Gate's Zhengzhou teenager. He stopped studying and started business like Gates, and led several students in his school to develop PPLive.

He was only 30 years old when he planned to start his business at the age of 29, but he was the president and chairman of Shanghai Juli Media Technology Co., Ltd. in December.

His ambition is posted on every wall of the company: "PPLive, changing the life of a generation".

    What is PPLive?

It has the world's largest Internet TV software installed by 175 million of the world's users, with 80% to 90% of its users in mainland China; that is to say, at least 1/10 of Chinese watch TV via PPLive.

Recently, the Wuhan city science and Technology Bureau launched this model of technology entrepreneurship for university students to attract public attention.

Big target: 30 years old to be a boss

    "I count half Hubei people."

Yao Xin said his mother was a native of Enshi. Although he was born in Zhengzhou, she used to be accustomed to Hubei food from childhood.

Reading biographies of Bill Gate in junior high school, he admired them immensely.

In 1999, he was admitted to the computer department of Huazhong University of Science and Technology for his first prize in the national computer competition in high school in Zhengzhou.

As soon as he entered freshmen, Yao Xin formulated a career plan for life: after graduation, he took the initiative to participate in the entrepreneurial team, understand the entrepreneurial process and accumulate experience, and work 6 years later, 30 years old, to create his own business.

Research and development: developing software over Microsoft

The 2002 World Cup changed Yao Xin's fate.

At that time, there was no television in the dormitory of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and the boys went to the hotel to rent or watch the ball game on the roadside.

"If you can watch TV online in your dorm room,"

Yao Xin said Microsoft had developed streaming media software, but did not support watching HD videos online. "I want to invent a" very card "to watch the ball online.

He completed the software thought and architecture design. He collaborate with 4 students who are interested in the same school.

By the end of 2004, the "online watching software" was successfully developed and named "PPLive". "PP" represents the core of the software is the new streaming media technology "P2P", which I independently developed, and "Live" means live broadcast.

PPLive was put on the Internet to share with everyone. In less than 5 months, it became the preferred Internet TV software for more than 2000 college students.

Yao Xin said that the promotion of PPLive did not cost 1 cents, and it was all enthusiastic netizens post.

In retrospection, Yao Xin still felt the most successful feeling on the first edition of PPLive. "At that time, everyone felt it was too difficult for the Americans to get it out. We got it out!" Yao Xinxiao said. At the time, he was turning over teaching materials and researching and developing.

5 years of "creating" conditions: research two

After the national day of 2004, Yao Xin, who had just studied for less than 1 months, decided to suspend his studies and start his own business. Two.

"This decision is not an impulse."

Yao Xin said he had done a lot of preparatory work before he left school: he had taken part in the entrepreneurial team during his undergraduate education and accumulated many entrepreneurial experiences; during the 5 years of his school years, he learned a large number of different types of people through entrepreneurial channels, University Students' forum, migrant workers, professional websites and community forums, and laid a close circle of talents for entrepreneurship. PPLive basically formed and entrepreneurial conditions were ripe.

Professor Li Zhitang, who emphasized his teaching in accordance with his aptitude, expressed his understanding and support. "Not everyone should read books. Some people are suitable for going to the world to make great achievements."

In the first year of entrepreneurship, the Yao Xin team worked 14 hours a day, with an average daily rest of about 5 hours.

The initial PPLive broadcast quality was not guaranteed, nor did it know whether the problem was in the network itself or software design. At 9 hours per night, the number of online users reached the peak, PPLive appeared stuck and other phenomena, and sometimes attacked by hackers, which made Yao Xin's team tremble and tread on thin ice.

Light business: hard environment touches VCS

In March 2005, PPLive was exposed to world-class risk of tactile sensitivity.

    Investment

SoftBank, a representative of Song Anlan, contacted Yao Xin and indicated that he would like to inject capital into his team.

"At that time, I didn't know anything about wind vying, but I thought it was a cheat."

    Yao Xin recalls.

His team had moved from dormitory to two private houses on the hillside of the school, one room as a development studio and the other room as a computer room and bedroom.

When Song Anlan came to Huazhong University, Yao Xin cycled to the school gate to pick up the bike for nearly 30 minutes before bringing the song to the studio.

As soon as Song Anlan entered the studio, he cried out: "this small residential building is small and airy, with lots of indoor computers and high calorie. All the members of the team are naked, staring at the computer in a concentrated manner.

"Sorry, the condition is not very good..."

Yao Xin was embarrassed, thinking that Song Anlan must have gone away.

"Entrepreneurial spirit and spirit of the times!" I didn't expect Song Anlan to be very excited. "I feel that you are very much like an entrepreneurial team! Especially when we were in Silicon Valley!" Song Anlan was one of the founding members of UT, a famous communications company in China. He first started his business in a garage in the US Silicon Valley.

Soon, Song Anlan sent two tickets to Shanghai, and invited Yao Xin and his team member Li Chong to sit in the company.

One day after two weeks, Yao Xin and Li Fei arrived in Shanghai at noon. At that time, 6 o'clock in the afternoon, the two sides signed the first investment agreement.

Busy than the stars: financing for SMEs 7 times a day.

In May 2005, hundreds of thousands of dollars were injected into the Yao Xin team.

    The team was registered.

    Shanghai

Juli Media Technology Co., Ltd., Yao Xin as president and chairman.

Cohesion means the power of gathering people. "P2P streaming media technology is to gather the computing resources of countless Internet users home computers, instead of high-performance and expensive servers, and watch high-definition network TV at low cost.

Because of its unique R & D and unique technology all over the world, the cost of server bandwidth is only 2% to 3% of the network video software such as Youku and potatoes.

In August 2005, Hunan satellite TV PPLive commissioned Yao Xin to provide the network broadcast for the first Super Girl competition.

PPLive has successfully made the nation's 500 thousand netizens watch the "super girl" finals online.

But at that time, the company was still in the research and development stage, and the funds could not go out. Wages were not paid in early 2006.

While comforting the team and stabilizing the army, Yao Xin traveled all over Shenzhen.

    Hong Kong

Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou, the more than 90 venture capitalists, made great efforts to win 5 million yuan for the company's secondary and small enterprises, and moved the company headquarters from Wuhan to Shanghai, and maintained Wuhan as a service operation center.

"At that time, there were only about 100 venture capitalists in China, and only a few of them did not."

He recalls that once he made an appointment with 7 venture capitalists in Shanghai one day and made 7 speeches, "more busy than the stars who go nowhere!"

Later, CCTV engaged in the "win in China" entrepreneurial program, and all the judges hired had approached Yao Xin about investment matters.

"Therefore, the financing of small and medium-sized enterprises has been smooth after many times, and almost all the heads of venture capital agencies have met."

Today, Yao Xin has positioned PPLive as a high profit and high growth online media based on free video broadcast services and profits from Internet video advertising.

Entrepreneurial experience: do not encourage college students to start their own businesses

As a past person, Yao Xin neither advocated college students to suspend their studies and started their own business.

He said that entrepreneurship should be successful. Technology, capital, talent and market are four indispensable elements.

"Think more before you start a business and insist on starting a business", and he thinks the most important thing is how to set up an initial entrepreneurial team. "The entrepreneurial team is not necessarily the best, but the most suitable, and it must be a complex team."

Team members should not be professional, nor can they be good at doing one thing. Try not to be a student, but they must have experience in all walks of life.

In 2004, Li, who was 13 years older than Yao Xin, joined Yao Xin's initial team.

Li Chong successfully opened several companies. When he was an undergraduate student, Yao Xin worked in his company. He was very appreciated by Li.

After Yao Xin suspended school, Li Li co started his business. Since then, Yao Xin has been developing research and development, and Li Chong has been working as a market for IT.
