Fiber Art: A Brand New Design Space
The exhibition of fiber art works, a graduate of home textile design major in the Department of art, Nantong Textile Vocational Technology College, has come to the display of a variety of artworks, such as wall hanging, vases and basket art, which are interesting and interesting. These decorations that can decorate indoor space are mostly made of wool, cotton thread, cloth strips, leather strips, coated fabrics, and even hand made with raw materials or ornaments made of gloves, buttons, beads, straw and hemp rope, giving people the feeling of being rough, easy-going, intimate and warm.
Behind dozens of works, there is a teacher's name, Li Nan.
Reporters found him for an interview.
"Home textile age": Hello, Miss Li. So many fantastic works of students have been made under your guidance. Please introduce yourself first, and then introduce the course of fiber art.
Li Nan: I graduated from the dyeing and weaving department of the dyeing and weaving art department of Luxun Academy of Fine Arts in 2007. I specializes in traditional dyeing and weaving patterns, hand drawing and fiber art.
Among them, special attention is paid to installation art and fiber art. First, because of the fire and the front edge, some artists want to break through the expression forms of pigment, canvas and Xuan paper, and seek to express their artistic and emotional appeals with larger three-dimensional space and more artistic expression methods. Two, because they like it, too, it is free, flexible and original. It is a manual production which can not be replaced by machine, not only the return of manual knitting technology, but also the carrier of people's heart to heart expression.
My graduation work, "Fang" and "Ji Huan", are included in the book "fabric recycling", which is commonly used in Chinese universities.
The opening definition of "fiber art" is that fiber art is a new and lasting art.
Fiber is one of the most closely related materials of human life. It can be broadly classified into two categories: natural moving, planting fibers (silk, wool, cotton, hemp, etc.) and synthetic fibers.
And the so-called fiber art, that is, artists use these and most human affinity materials, weaving, loop, winding, sewing and other means of production to create planar, three-dimensional and space device image of an art.
Therefore, it is an art form that integrates practical function and aesthetic value. Because of its long history, it is often called the art of enduring and fresh.
Fiber art abroad is relatively early.
More than half a century ago, Jean Rulsa, a French artist known as "the father of modern tapestries" and his friend Peter bale, had been planning 15 "Lausanne international tradition and modern Tapestry Art Biennale" before and after hard work. It attracted the attention of artists from different countries and different fields to fiber art, and aroused unprecedented enthusiasm for creation. New ideas and methods of expression made it gradually get rid of the traditional tapestry art.
In 1996, the Lausanne Biennale was announced to be closed due to its content and financial reasons, which, to some extent, made the international fiber art lose its center of activity and stage.
However, the biennial art exhibition of fiber art has been handed down in China.
Professor Lin Lecheng, a famous fiber artist and Tsinghua art academy, is the first person to know that the Lausanne Biennale has been suspended in China's fiber art circles. He decided to continue to hold the international fiber art exhibition in China.
In October 2000, the first International Biennial of fiber art from Lausanne to Beijing opened in Beijing and held 6 sessions in 2010.
I have visited several sessions and have benefited greatly. I have decided to explore the art teaching and practice and get the approval of Li Bo, director of the Art Department of Nantong Textile Vocational Technology College.
"Home textile age": why do you choose to teach in Nantong Textile Institute, do you have a good prospect of fiber art in home textile design? What's the role of design improvement for students or future designers?
Li Nan: fiber art has broad prospects not only in home textiles but also in home furnishings and home decorations.
First of all, in the use of home textiles, China is a large textile country with a long history and modern manufacturing.
The "12th Five-Year plan" of the textile industry put forward that China should move from a big textile country to a strong textile country, which is inseparable from upgrading the original design level, and it is inseparable from the training of designers.
The home textile design specialty of Nantong Textile Institute is training advanced skilled talents in home textile design and production, with special emphasis on the cultivation of students' practical ability.
Fiber art can not only open up ideas for students' learning and design, inspire design creativity, but also help develop practical ability, train designers to make design projects more rigorous and closer to production.
It can be said that it is not only a basic course of design creativity, but also a practical course to improve hands-on ability.
Secondly, close to the space and market in the use of home furnishings.
Fiber art is an important branch of installation art. It is known as "soft sculpture", and it can create a warm and relaxed atmosphere and environment for people who are fast-paced and high pressure. Therefore, the hotel space has attached great importance to the display of fiber art in soft clothing, improved the humanized and personalized characteristics of the hotel, and catered to the development trend of low carbon and environmental protection.
In the future, the display of fiber art in family soft clothing will also be enhanced.
At the same time, in the family, people can also make their own fiber art products, and enjoy the fun of DIY.
It also provides a broader market for home textiles and home designers.
Once again, China's home textile started later than clothing, and now it is chasing fabric on fabric.
The application of fiber art is a new space to enhance the taste of home textiles in the future.
At the exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany, we have seen the rudiment of fabric recycling, which is the in-depth application of fiber art to home textiles.
"Home textile age": the introduction of fiber art in China's research and creation is not long. Then, as a teaching exploration, how can you combine students with fiber art and home textile design in teaching?
Li Nan: in the first half of 2010, I had two classes and 70 students in the home textile design specialty of Nantong Textile Institute.
At first, students had no idea.
Fortunately, the first "fiber art" teaching material has been published in China. According to the textbook, I first taught students about the concept of evolution and genre, and then explained the works of foreign fiber art masters to the students.
When I was studying in Lu Mei, I was concerned about installation art and listening to the fiber art course taught by GiviKandareli, a famous Georgian fiber artist. He deeply felt the unlimited inspiration of fiber materials to designers, and realized the strong visual impact of fiber art on the viewer. Kivi Kanda
In order to pass on these feelings and experiences to students, I carried out curriculum design from installation art, fiber art and fabric reconstruction in teaching. The former focuses on design creativity while the latter focuses on application.
This arrangement not only extends from two dimensions, three dimensions to four dimensions, expands the students' design thinking space, improves the overall grasp level from plane to three-dimensional, but also improves students' understanding of the mechanism of materials and materials, and is easy to connect with other courses.
As a result, the students have strong interest and creative desire for fiber art, and the graduation design works give me a bright look, which is beyond the expectations of the teachers and greatly enhances the self-confidence of the students.
In fact, the combination of fabric recycling and fiber art is an adventure, because they are two courses, requiring strong hands-on ability and a challenge in teaching.
But you can't look down on these students. None of their work is a copy of the material, all of them are creative.
"Home textile age": from the works, we can see that after the education and training of students in fiber art courses, their artistic accomplishment and artistic creation ability are enhanced.
Your fiber art creation is earlier than the students. Please talk about how these practices affect your life.
Li Nan: Kivi Kandareli, a famous fiber artist, said: "the art of modern fiber is difficult to depict with pen and paper."
Because it combines the expressive function of painting and sculpture, and combines the planar and three-dimensional morphological features, it expresses a kind of life pursuit and life interest.
In its production process, people can be freed from the usual tedious things.
In fact, people are placed in the society that is full of industrial taste and convenient and efficient in pursuit of machine building. In the pursuit of profit maximization, they still yearn for genuine and plain expression and works to have a simple and honest dialogue with their innermost feelings.
Then, we will redesign the thread of our daily life with needles and lines, and create various kinds of small ornament life, which will bear a sense of achievement.
For example, when I saw the "cactus" made of broken socks at University, I thought of the scene of learning and life at that time. It is really worth remembering.
The experience of life is condensed into a little ornament, which contains "a rich story".
Life is the same in the world. There are many stories.
Therefore, whether it's home textile design or home furnishings design, designers constantly improve their artistic accomplishment and artistic creativity, all in order to facilitate people or themselves to leave stories or depict better stories.
The Japanese family still attaches great importance to the deep development of fiber art -- fabric recycling, which has produced many famous designers of costume design, fiber art and fabric recycling. Among them, Lssey Miyake is my idol.
Reporter: from this point of view, Japan's highly developed modern industry has also done well in the inheritance and reservation of traditional culture, which is probably one of the reasons.
It is hoped that more home textile designers will pay attention to the use of fiber art and fabric recycling.
Thank you very much!
Connection: "no material is so old and so modern. No artistic language is so rich and colorful, and the language is so intimate and intimate."
Architects often evaluate fiber art as the warmest art in modern architectural space.
Therefore, when the construction technology of fiber tapestry, fiber wall sculpture and fiber installation art, concept art and large fiber art are built into the public view with the display of advanced bedroom, it seems that this strange art category is directly integrated into our real life.
Artists imagine the richness of the color world and fiber fabric soft texture, unique shaping ability, so that the wall decoration is neither flat painting, nor is it full of strength but hard relief; when people stick it through, when the air between the sleeve flakes, the end of the fiber seems to be wobble, and even speak on one side, it can feel the subtle influence of the works.
This is the intimate distance and warmth that no art form has ever experienced.
