Buyers Evaluate New Trends In New York Fashion Week
Bright colors, exquisite style and simplicity in 70s will be popular in New York fashion week.
In the fragile economic recovery, US Department Store buyers hope to find suitable clothing to attract cautious consumers.
Barneys, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom's senior department store buyers said that after decades of the most serious economic crisis, American consumers were cautious despite the increase in consumption, both for retailers and fashion designers.
Experts say that rising commodity prices, especially cotton prices, will probably push up the cost of fashion this year.
New York Fashion Week opens on Thursday. A total of 89 fashion designers will be on stage to show the 2011 autumn and winter series.
Followed by London Fashion Week, Paris fashion week and Milan fashion week.
Neiman Marcus department store fashion director said, "as the economic recovery is slow, we find that consumers have already patronized stores, but they are still very cautious.
Before the recession, consumers lost money.
Consumer spending accounts for about 70% of the US economy.
But this has not yet recovered from the recession.
The reason is that the unemployment rate is hovering around 9%, and many Americans are suffering from household debt.
Catherine Moellering, deputy executive director of fashion retailing consultant, said, "we are in the post recession aftershocks. I think we all feel that we are not completely out of the woods."
But she added, "but many consumers are ready to sell."
It is true that demand is suppressed. Consumers feel that they are worth spending money on shopping.
They have been depressed for a long time and are ready to spend money shopping now.
Rise in price?
But as the economic recovery is fragile, the panic of raw materials supply stimulates cotton prices to a historical record. Catherine Moellering said that rising costs could affect consumers' desire to buy later this year.
Fashion designers and retailers need to give them a good reason to consume, she said.
Fashion buyers expect the New York fashion week T stage will be high waist trousers, knee to long leg skirts, velvet and satin and other evening dress materials for daily wear.
Daniella Vitale, the chief buyer of Barneys department store, said, "the 70s flanges and fluffy line dress will come again.
(French brand) Celine's first brevity style will still exist.
The main colors of autumn and winter 2011 will be dark and all kinds of red tones, ranging from light to wine red, red berry and plum.
Experts also predict that all kinds of green tones will become popular. Winter white will also replace camel color as the main tone.
