Textile And Retail Industry In South Africa

    according to

    South Africa

The National Bureau of Statistics (Statistics SA) released figures showing retail sales in February 2011.

    Sale

The amount is 39 billion 887 million South African (calculated at the base price in 2008), up 5.6% compared with the same month last year, though it continued to grow in 2010.

    trend

It is not as good as 6.3% of the previous month and 7% of the Reuters's estimate in advance.

If we look at the cumulative performance in January and February this year, the sales amount will be 80 billion 960 million South African dollar.

    Range

    About 6%.

In terms of the main retail categories, the sales of furniture and electrical appliances grew by 7.7%, and the double digit growth momentum in the past 11 months was interrupted.

The decline in food, beverage and tobacco products was 2.5%, and the reduction was slightly lower than that in the previous month -2.9%.

Family category increased by 16.7%, continuing the growth of the previous month.

General sales grew by 4.1%, a slight decrease of 0.1% compared with the previous month.

Clothing and textile products increased by 5.4%, less than 6.6% in the previous month.

Health care products grew by 10.8%, and double-digit figures were paid for seventh consecutive months.

Other categories of sales grew by 7.1%, better than the previous month's 6.9%.

    Efficient Research

    Economics

According to Freddie Mitchell, recent international commodity and oil prices have risen, while household disposable income has not increased synchronously, so retail sales have not been as good as expected.

Nedbank points out that whether the central bank raises interest rates or fluctuations in international oil prices will affect the retail industry performance in the short and medium term.
