India Textile Workers Are Pferred To Other Industries Due To Low Wages.

A survey by the India Federation of industry and Commerce (ASSOCHAM) said that higher wage jobs are attracting textile workers to other fast growing industries from the textile industry, resulting in a shortage of domestic textile and garment industry. The textile and garment industry is facing the challenge of recruiting more workers to meet production needs.

Nearly 45% of respondents said that due to labor shortages, their capacity utilization was only 50-60%, while about 30% of respondents said their profits were shrinking because they could not meet sales targets.

The online and telephone survey was conducted last week, and 100 textile companies were interviewed.

D S Rawat, the Secretary General of the association, said

Mr. Rawat added that most mobile workers earn about 7000 rupees per month. After the planting season ends, they enter the city from the agricultural sector for half a year, and when the harvest season begins, they return to the countryside.

But the government's successful social sector plan is preventing mobile labor from entering the urban areas from rural areas.
