At The End Of The Year, 200 Thousand Textile And Leather Workers In India Are Expected To Lose Their Jobs.

    India

A letter from the Ministry of Commerce and industry of India submitted to the Economic Affairs Commission pointed out that, by the end of the fiscal year, the exporters will reduce about 200 thousand workers. If the government does not take immediate action, the figure may be substantially improved.

The Ministry of industry and Commerce once requested more assistance from rival craft enterprises, textile and leather enterprises, and the export of these industries has plummeted by 50%.

The government can consider raising taxes and reducing tax rates under the framework of the DEPB plan, paying all the exporters' service tax and paying the state tax.

The Ministry of Commerce has conducted a survey of about 60 companies in the whole industry. Up to September 30th, 10800 workers had been dismissed.

If the exporters are not helped out of difficulties, the figure will rise sharply next year.

Especially in the textile and handicrafts industry, some companies have closed down and a large number of workers are out of work.

Some exporters have reduced the scale of exports and caused some workers to lose their jobs.

According to official estimates, the rupee appreciation led to a 56% reduction in export of handicraft enterprises, a decrease of about 25% in the textile industry, 6% in the leather industry, and 33% and 20% in tea and coffee exports respectively.

The rupee appreciation has gone beyond control.

Exporters believe that some of the government's early support measures have not been able to fully solve the problem, and at the same time, the implementation is far from enough.
