Pakistan Cotton Gin Association Pays Attention To India'S Most Favored Nation Treatment
The Pakistan cotton and cotton ginning Association (PCGA) said they were concerned about Pakistan's status as MFN.
PCGA President A Manuel Qureshi and some institutional leaders said that giving India most favored nation treatment might damage the interests of cotton growers and ginning plants in Pakistan. Parliament should not pass the cabinet's decision because it is not conducive to the development of Pakistan's cotton industry.
PCGA leaders say India's production costs, both in agriculture and industry, are lower than those in Pakistan.
They believe that, given the most favored nation treatment in India, some Pakistan industries will import India commodities and agricultural products for maximum benefit. Similarly, the Pakistan textile industry will also choose to import India cotton and reduce their production costs.
President PCGA reiterated that cotton exporters should be encouraged to cancel the pre export security / guarantee and registration requirements, which would enable the ginning factory to obtain a better export price and bring considerable foreign exchange back to Pakistan.
