Shoemaking industry is a typical labor-intensive industry.
From the perspective of globalization, the capacity of the industry is always moving toward countries and regions where labor costs are low.
Historically, the focus of world footwear industry has shifted from Italy and Spain to Japan, Taiwan and Korea, and then to mainland China.
At present, China has become the largest shoe manufacturing center in the world, and shoes account for more than 60% of the world's total output.
China's footwear market can be divided into four parts: leather shoes, rubber shoes, cloth shoes and plastic shoes.
In addition to the gradual change of styles and materials of shoes in various market segments, the consumption structure of all kinds of shoes has also changed.
The proportion of leather shoes sales has risen from early 9% to 35%.
Consumer groups also expanded from the original cities to the rural areas, and products began to develop from low to high.
Standing in the world footwear market, China's production of footwear is mainly low and medium grade.
The annual output of leather shoes is about 2 billion 400 million pairs, accounting for 40% of the total output of leather shoes worldwide, and the market share of leather shoes is 85%.
At present, China's footwear industry has shown the industrial cluster development.
Generally speaking, there are four major industrial clusters.
The first is the Guangdong shoe industry base, represented by Guangzhou and Dongguan, which mainly produces high and medium class shoes. The two is Zhejiang footwear base, which is represented by Wenzhou and Taizhou. It mainly produces low and medium shoes. The three is the western footwear industry base represented by Chengdu and Chongqing, which mainly produces women's shoes. Four is the production base of shoes, represented by Fujian Quanzhou, Quanzhou and so on, mainly producing sports shoes.
