Comparison Of Breathability Of Three Major Assault Clothing Fabrics
There are many kinds of fabrics used for assault clothing, and the difference between different fabrics is very complicated.
The quality of the fabric is mainly determined by the quality of the fabric.
Waterproofing property
And breathability.
If waterproof, no fabric can be better waterproof than a rubber raincoat, so don't wear a raincoat as a raincoat.
Under the premise that the waterproof property of fabrics is guaranteed, the individual pays more attention to the permeability of fabrics, and the fabrics with good breathability are really dry and comfortable.
In fact, the US military has been looking for the best waterproof and breathable fabrics, and has made detailed and rigorous testing of each fabric.
I am very lucky to find a test report on the permeability of various fabrics by the US Army. These fabrics come from all kinds of fabrics and outdoor manufacturers, including some common clothing, such as Gore-Tex, Omni-Tech, eVent, and some of the less common ones in China.
Although the US Army test fabric is for military equipment, when you choose to buy the suit, if you can't decide what kind of fabric permeability is better, you can also refer to their results.
After all, the data from the military are more reliable than the ambiguous personal feelings and the test data that are hard to distinguish.
This report is mainly for testing the permeability of fabrics. Two tests are carried out for each type of fabric: permeability resistance test, permeability resistance test is to test fabric resistance to water vapor, the smaller the resistance, the easier it is for steam to penetrate the outside side of the fabric, which indicates that the permeability of fabric is better.
Description: the longitudinal axis represents the air permeability resistance, the pverse axis represents the relative humidity (1 is 100%), the smaller the resistance, that is to say, the closer to the lower part.
Fabric for assault clothing
The better permeability.
The air permeability test is to test how many grams of water vapor per square metre of fabric can be passed in 24 hours, and the more water vapor it passes through, the better the permeability of the fabric.
Description: longitudinal axis indicates air permeability, horizontal axis indicates relative humidity (1 indicates 100%), and larger air permeability, that is to say, the closer the fabric is, the better air permeability.
Patagonia assault clothing is very outstanding in style design, but he doesn't know much about the H2no fabric he uses, and he can't find any special materials to introduce this kind of fabric.
Here is an article from outside.away.com. The author compares three fabrics: Gore-Tex, eVent and H2no according to their intuitive experience of using various fabric fabrics. So far, I have passed two Gore-Tex Pro Shell assault clothes, one sample from Gore company to reporters and retailers, and the other is the Exum assault clothing purchased from $375 on the groundhog website.
I am very impressed by the breathability and super light weight of Pro Shell. I have no chance to test these two clothes in cold and humid environment. At the very least, they are skiing in them.
But I think Pro Shell is better than the original XCR.
For Pro Shell, my conclusion is that it's a little expensive, but things are really good.
Patagonia's H2no and MontBell's Dry Light are all used for PU coating materials. Although the two processes are different, the result is the same: because the PU coating has very little pores, so it can be well rain proof, but the air permeability is slightly worse.
I haven't used MontBell products, but I've been using quite a lot of H2no equipment over the years, and I feel quite satisfied.
Generally speaking, H2no has less air permeability than Gore-Tex and eVent, but this difference is narrowing, and the price of assault clothing made of H2no fabric is low and attractive.
For example, Patagonia's JetStream $225 is very cost-effective.
Generally speaking, I think eVent fabric.
Air permeability
Gore-Tex Pro Shell is the best, followed by Patagonia and MontBell in third, but in fact, they are not very different.
