Looking At "Made In China" From The Perspective Of China'S Export Growth

    2008/6/25 0:00:00 10419

    Made In China

It seems to be a contradictory phenomenon. On the one hand, it is raising the question of the quality of China's export products, especially the quality of food, on the one hand. On the other hand, the number of products exported by China is increasing.

According to Yu Guangzhou, Vice Minister of Commerce, according to the recent growth rate, China's trade surplus is likely to be the first in the world this year. The total export volume is likely to surpass that of the United States and become the second largest exporter in the world after Germany.

This contradiction stems from the contradictory attitude that some countries welcome and reject Chinese products.

There is no doubt that "made in China" still has a vast market. China's cheap and beautiful products become the main consumer goods of the middle and low income groups all over the world.

Chinese toys account for 80% of the world's market share, and Chinese shoes account for over 60% of the world's footwear industry. In the output of 13 billion pairs of shoes in the global footwear industry, China has produced 10 billion pairs, nearly 7 billion pairs of exports, and the average population of the globe has a pair of Chinese shoes on average.

Not only in the field of consumer goods, but also in other fields, the competitiveness of Chinese products is improving rapidly. In 2006, the import and export of mechanical and electrical products ranked third in the world, and the number of exports and imports in the world moved one place earlier than last year.

Statistics show that in 2006, China's import and export of mechanical and electrical products increased by 25.7%, which was 1.8 percentage points higher than that of the whole country's foreign trade, accounting for 55.5% of the country's foreign trade, and the net import and export of mechanical and electrical products increased by 200 billion 40 million US dollars, accounting for 59% of the national foreign trade increment.

Even though Chinese food is currently besieged, exports in the first half of this year have increased by 22.2%.

According to relevant statistics, in 2006, China's food exports to the EU still reached 3 billion 300 million US dollars, up 31.3% over the same period last year.

"Made in China" has benefited the developed countries, especially the United States, in the case of a significant depreciation of the US dollar, which still can maintain inflation below 2% of the target line. Chinese products have eliminated US inflation. Secondly, the fact that China has made large exports shows that the middle and low income groups in these countries have strong consumer demand for Chinese products.

Because of this, when the United States government or congressmen put forward proposals to restrict Chinese products, economists often wrote in the media, warning "restricting Chinese products to harm the interests of their own poor".

Therefore, in developed countries, they are not monolithic. Rational people see problems as well as interests.

Why did China's manufacturing encounter cyclical encirclement and suppression?

From shoes, textiles, lighters to toys and food, from past quotas to more technical barriers, Chinese products have been screened by imported country regulators.

The reason is not difficult to understand.

First of all, a large number of imports of Chinese products, though inevitable derivatives of the US led global policy, have also caused dissatisfaction among local manufacturing workers. The low cost and high efficiency of China's manufacturing industry make it difficult for manufacturers in these countries to look forward to their products.

Therefore, the domestic political game has become a bargaining chip in China.

Accusations against Chinese products are closely related to the election cycle of the United States.

Second, the current global economic balance is a fragile balance. High surplus countries such as China return to the us through buying US Treasury bonds and other investment products and opening up financial markets. Capital flows maintain the balance of payments of all countries.

But this balance is easily broken. For example, the recent subprime debt in the United States has led to a fall in confidence in the capital market. The accusation of Chinese products in fact reflects the anxious attitude of the United States for financial risks. The problems arising from a few Chinese exports just provide an attack weapon to the other side.

Chinese products should certainly improve their quality. This is due to the needs of Chinese brands and innovation strategies. However, the current recourse to Chinese product quality, such as temporary modification standards, exceeds the bottom line of the game rules, which is demonized.

Taking the recall of the largest toy dealer in the United States and the suicide of a Chinese toy dealer as an example, as a order manufacturer, the Chinese company made the MATTEL standard, and the recourse directly directed against the OEM manufacturer, which is obviously unfair.

In the face of interests, the ancestral motto of mercantilism and complementary resources of all countries was thrown out of the nine night cloud.

Overall, China's exports are among the best quality products in the country.

According to the data published in the white paper of China's food quality and safety status, the overall pass rate of Chinese food has steadily increased in recent years.

In 2006, the qualified rate of food inspection was 77.9%.

In the first half of 2007, the qualified rate of food supervision was 85.1%.

Objectively speaking, some Chinese exporters have indeed destroyed the credibility of Chinese products. The State Council attached great importance to it. For this reason, the State Council held 186th executive meetings and the national quality work conference, and decided to launch a food focused quality rectification campaign in the whole country, and set up the leading group of the State Council's product quality and food safety. The vice premier of the State Council was appointed Wu Yi as the group leader.

China's Ministry of Commerce spokesman put forward three specific countermeasures: establishing credit system, strengthening punishment for illegal enterprises, establishing information communication mechanism at different levels between government departments and enterprises, and implementing regular issuing mechanism.

All kinds of phenomena made in China are actually the inevitable outcome of the game of economic and political interests between countries and enterprises in the process of globalization.

We will continue to see the endless game of manufacturing around China, which is aimed at the quality of Chinese products, such as Pei Gong, the United States and other countries, aiming to expand the share of China's financial market with the sword of quality.

If so, China's manufacturing will suffer losses, and the importing countries will lose more. Natural endowments decide that they can not become manufacturing bases.

But from another point of view, the existence of pressure can also promote the upgrading of our industry.

A strong opponent is often an opportunity to push people forward, as well as for enterprises and countries.
