Anti-Dumping Or Extension Of European Leather Shoes

The EU's anti-dumping measures against Chinese leather shoes originally scheduled to expire in October 7th this year will be postponed.

According to foreign reports, the European shoe industry has repeatedly put forward the EU's request to extend anti-dumping measures to China's leather shoes, which has caused quite a stir in the European footwear industry.

The EU anti-dumping time limit will be postponed in October 7, 2006, and the EU will impose a 2 year and 16.5% anti-dumping duty on leather shoes in China because of the low price leather shoes exported by China.

After the re export trade and other reasons, the measure extended to Macao in April 29th this year.

At the end of May this year, the EU footwear Federation held a meeting in Italy to propose a proposal to extend the anti-dumping period for leather shoes in China.

Subsequently, altiio, chairman of the Italy Footwear Association, publicly supported the proposal.

Al Theo Lee believes that although the total volume of shoes imported by the EU in 2007 still maintained a two digit growth rate, it had dropped by 16.5% compared with 2006. This shows that the EU anti-dumping measures are effective.

The European footwear Federation has decided to extend to the European Union the extension of anti-dumping measures to China for 5 years.

It is understood that the Italy Footwear Association is currently collecting information and opinions among member enterprises to prepare for review.

A few days ago, the European footwear Federation announced that it would embark on the formulation of new anti-dumping measures to reduce the export of Chinese leather shoes.

Experts believe that 40% of EU shoe manufacturers will support it.

China's shoe companies have no choice but to wait for the EU's anti-dumping on Chinese leather shoes.

The relevant departments in China have already begun to tackle this problem.

Wei Yafei, the head of the China Leather Association emergency response team, said that the recent EU anti-dumping on Chinese leather shoes is a matter of relative concern.

The association has convened relevant enterprises to jointly cope with it, and hopes to organize some enterprises to reconsider the European Union from June to August this year, so as to help enterprises fight for their interests.

"At least it is possible to win a low tax rate."

However, due to the high cost of litigation, complicated procedures and unpredictable results, many enterprises have not made clear statements, and have adopted the attitude of "following the mainstream".

A chairman of a shoe enterprise in Wenzhou told reporters that he was worried: "the anti-dumping review is very long, it may be finished, two years have passed, and then go to claim for compensation, but it is not worth the cost of litigation."

In addition, the results are really hard to predict.
