Cocoon Prices Hit A New High And Sericulture Farmers' Income Increased
In 2013, cocoon prices across the country hit a record high. In the first half of the year, the average purchase price of silkworm cocoons in Guangxi was about 40 yuan/kg, and the average purchase price of spring cocoons in Zhejiang Province was 43 yuan/kg, which made silkworm farmers happy.
However, for the whole cocoon silk industry chain, there are several joys and several sorrows. At this price level, the price of processed raw silk will reach 400000 yuan/ton. Compared with the current price of 380000 yuan/ton, there has been a trend of "flour is more expensive than bread". This makes the downstream silk reeling enterprises and silk quilt production enterprises "under great pressure".

Cocoon prices hit a new high and sericulture farmers' income increased
Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region seized the opportunity of moving mulberry from east to west and vigorously developed mulberry planting and sericulture. In the first half of the year, the cocoon output of the whole region was 145000 tons, up about 6% year on year. The average purchase price of cocoons was about 40 yuan/kg, up 26.1% year on year, the highest ever. The income of sericulture farmers was 5.8 billion yuan, an increase of 1.476 billion yuan or 34.14% year on year.
According to the statistics of the agricultural department, the number of silkworm eggs raised in Zhejiang Province this year was 550000, a decrease of 10% over the same period last year, but the proportion of high-quality silkworm varieties has increased significantly, and new varieties such as male silkworm reached more than 50000. In the acquisition, the proportion of checkered cocoons is high, and there are basically no foot cocoons or wet cocoons. The quality of cocoons is good, and the cocoon loading rate is high. During the spring cocoon rearing period this year, the climate is suitable, and the mulberry leaves grow well, which is conducive to the rearing of spring silkworms. This year, the cocoon quality is good, and the average cocoon yield is 50 kg, but the total output may still be lower than last year.
Affected by the difference in cocoon quality and market demand, the purchase price of spring cocoons in Zhejiang Province increased significantly this year. The average purchase price of spring cocoons in Zhejiang Province was 33 yuan/kg in 2012 and 43 yuan/kg in 2013, up 30%.
This year, 277000 spring silkworms were bred in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, ranking first in the province. It is understood that the highest purchase price of spring cocoons in Dongtai, Sheyang, Dafeng and other major sericulture production areas in Yancheng is about 54 yuan per kilogram, and the lowest purchase price is about 46 yuan per kilogram. The average purchase price of spring cocoons in the city has increased by 25.6% compared with the same period last year, a record high. The output value of cocoons in spring was 630 million yuan, increasing farmers' income by 100 million yuan.
Trend of cocoon silk
The price of raw silk rises. Is flour more expensive than bread
January 4 was the first trading day in 2013. The disk cocoon silk contracts were all red, and the main contract increased positions, which can be said to set a tone for the cocoon silk market in 2013. In January and February, the cocoon silk market kept high and oscillating.
In the first ten days of March, the price of cocoon silk fell slightly. After the Spring Festival, the activity of the cocoon and silk market was low, and the silk enterprises' production was in order. They were cautious about the purchase of raw materials, most of which were bought and used immediately, which put pressure on the raw silk inventory of silk reeling enterprises. At the same time, after the Spring Festival, the climate in each silkworm area is warm and the rain is sufficient. The growth of mulberry trees is obviously better than the previous two years. The enthusiasm of sericulture farmers is high. In 2013, the production of cocoons is expected to increase. India's proposal to raise raw silk import tariff has become the trigger for the decline of cocoon silk market.
In the middle of April, the price of cocoon silk fell significantly from 380000 yuan/ton to about 365000 yuan/ton. From the perspective of cycle, this period is in the period of the alternation of new and old cocoons, resulting in a window period. In addition, the cocoon silk market has continued to rise in the early stage spin To a certain extent, the raw materials have all experienced a correction, so the market is weakening. The price hike in the cocoon and silk market has brought a lot of negative effects to the industry. However, since late April, with the gradual listing of new cocoons, the market has begun to improve. At the end of April, Guangxi spring cocoons began to be listed one after another, and the purchase price continued the high price of the autumn cocoons last year. The purchase price of Yizhou in northern Guangxi was maintained at about 40~42 yuan/kg, while that of Xiangzhou, Xincheng, Hengxian County and Binyang in southern Guangxi was maintained at about 38~40 yuan/kg. The purchase price of new cocoons provided new support for the depressed market in April.
In the first ten days of May, the price of silkworm cocoons rose slightly, and the narrow amplitude oscillation market in the early stage gradually stabilized and kept rising momentum. The recovery of export orders from March to April this year is the basic reason for this round of price reversal, which directly led to the higher purchase price of cocoons this spring. With the arrival of the peak consumption season, the price focus of dried cocoons has gradually moved up, continuing the rising pattern as a whole.
In general, the raw silk market continued to rise in the first half of this year. The price of raw silk rose from 366000 yuan/ton at the beginning of the year to 386500 yuan/ton at the end of June, an increase of 5.60%. In March and April, the downstream demand was weak and difficult to change. Before the new cocoons were fully listed, the cocoon silk market continued to rise after a small decline. Since the end of April, spring cocoons have been listed in succession, and the price of cocoons has basically remained at about 40 yuan/kg, up about 10% over the same period last year. The purchase price of spring cocoons is firm, and the average price of spring cocoons across the country has almost reached the highest level in history. The high cost of spring cocoons has become a foregone conclusion, and the trend of high cost of cocoon raw materials throughout the year is difficult to change. The raw silk market remains strong, and the support of cocoon has become a solid reason for the raw silk market to remain high.
Enterprise status
The silk quilt enterprises have difficulty in operating at a loss
On the morning of July 12, Chen Qiming, head of Shuxin Clothing Co., Ltd. in Yuyue Town, Deqing County, Zhejiang Province, put 1 ton of silk into the warehouse. "Don't dare to buy more silk. Now the price of silk is too high, 330000 yuan per ton, compared with 230000 yuan per ton in the same period last year." Chen Qiming said that his company needs about 70 tons of silk every year, and now he can only slowly replenish the inventory.
Since last June, the price of silk has kept rising. Speaking of the crazy increase in the price of silk, Chen Qiming said he could not afford it. He calculated the account. In the first half of 2012, the enterprise produced 0.9kg silk quilts, exported 53 dollars, and made a profit of 5%. This year, quilts of the same specification will sell for 57 dollars, and each quilt will lose 2.5 dollars.
"No way, the price was negotiated in March, and we should stick to this price this year, otherwise it would be a breach of contract." Chen Qiming said that what he did was export, and the price was negotiated once a year in March. This year, he estimated that the price of silk would continue to rise, and raised the price by 8% when negotiating with customers. "The price was negotiated for three days, but it still lost." Chen Qiming said that now he can only supplement from other products.
According to the price of silk in previous years, June, July and August are the off-season for silk sales, and the price of silk will be reduced. But since last year, this rule has been broken. Chen Qiming said that this year, citizens will buy silk quilts with good quality. It is estimated that the price per jin will be 180 yuan. Last year, the price per jin was 140 yuan.
Wang Xuerong, one of the persons in charge of Yinmenglai's clothes, also has the same trouble as Chen Qiming. "There is little business this year even if it is not in the off-season," said Wang Xuerong. Compared with last year, the output of the enterprise has dropped by nearly half this year. The price of silk rose rather than fell in the off-season, and the increase was not small. What was the reason for this? Chen Qiming believes that the key lies in the growth of labor costs and the reduction of sericulture farmers.
Xiadong Village, Yuyue Town, Deqing County has only three silkworm breeding households in spring this year, with two silkworms in total. As early as the 1990s, every family here raised silkworms. In 1997, the village had 2000 silkworms. Shen Binghe, a 60 year old villager who has raised half a crop this year, told the reporter that she had to take her children to cook. She could not go to the factory to work, so she chose to continue raising silkworms. "Going to work in the factory can earn 2000 yuan a month, which is much more than sericulture." Shen Binghe said that last month, she sold more than 20 kilograms of cocoons at 2100 yuan per ton (50 kilograms per ton), earning less than 900 yuan. "We have to raise silkworms all the year round. The first silkworm is the best in quality and the highest in price. The next one can't earn so much."
In addition, the young people now feel that sericulture is too hard to earn much, and they are unwilling to do it. With fewer people raising silkworms and less cocoon production, the price will naturally rise.
comment
How to get out of the industry circle?
On the one hand, sericulture farmers' income is growing, and on the other hand, silk enterprises are struggling to make a living. As two ends of the same interest chain, they should share weal and woe, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. Now, they are trapped in the strange circle of "cocoon cheap hurts farmers" and "cocoon expensive hurts workers".
For sericulture farmers, it is not only hard to plant mulberry and raise silkworms, but also the income is affected by uncontrollable factors such as weather and price fluctuations. With the rising cost of means of production and labor costs, only when the cocoon price rises will the sericulture farmers have the enthusiasm to raise silkworms.
For silk enterprises, the traditional export market economy is depressed, export is becoming more and more difficult, the affordability of the terminal market price is limited, and the rise of cocoon price is difficult to transmit to the downstream. Cocoon prices are higher than silk prices, and silk reeling will lose money as long as it is produced.
How can we get out of the strange circle and let the cocoon and silk industry develop healthily? Only by deeply exploring consumer demand and developing high value-added products can we ensure the profit space of silk enterprises and the interests of sericulture farmers.
Silk, known as the "Queen" of fiber, symbolizes the unique status of the owner and reflects the elegant taste of the wearer. Recently, the hand-painted silk brand Lansihui opened in Wuhan New World International Trade Store. The brand uses 100% mulberry silk as raw material, hand drawn patterns and pure hand sewing, and has a number of loyal customers in first tier cities. With the improvement of the quality of life, not only the high-end like Lansihui clothing The brand has a fixed market group, and many brands focusing on silk fabrics are increasingly favored by consumers.
In recent years, more natural, green, pollution-free and functional new products represented by silk quilts, silk underwear, silk fashion, silk ornaments, etc. have been continuously developed, and the inherent advantages of silk fibers have gradually been re recognized by modern people, fully in line with the current trend of "green consumption".
For the export-oriented Chinese silk industry, the domestic silk market with a population of 1.3 billion has huge development potential. In combination with the ancient Chinese silk culture, understand the current trend of consumption and stimulate the power of the domestic market, so that the silk industry can go out of the strange circle and usher in a new spring.
