Armenia Leather Industry Initiative To Restrict Export Of Leather Raw Materials

Vazgen Safaryan, chairman of the Federation of trade unions, said at a news conference on Tuesday that Armenia should increase exports of leather goods and restrict the export of leather raw materials.

"Every year, the total weight of leather raw materials exported to Armenia is about 3.5 to 4 tons, mainly exported to Turkey, Iran, India and China."

He said, "after the leather is processed and tanned in these countries, a considerable part will be made into finished products for export, for example, Turkey enterprises will make leather shoes and export again after processing imported leather materials."

Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan have adopted measures to restrict the export of leather raw materials, and the export tariffs on leather raw materials in these countries are about 260 euros per ton.

"They use leather materials for domestic industrial development."

Safaryan said, "Armenia should do the same thing to promote."
