In order to better manage leather making enterprises and make China's tanning enterprises docking with the international market, the China Leather Association has begun to prepare leather enterprises to be included in the management of leather logo.

In 2003, after seven years of research and discussion, the China Leather Association officially launched the "leather logo eco leather" to the society, extending the concept of leather logo to the raw materials of leather products.

"Leather logo eco leather" is the continuation of the "genuine leather logo". It refers to all kinds of finished leather and fur that are entitled to use the trademark "genuine leather logo".

It has prospectively made limited provisions on four types of special chemical substances (six valent chromium, banned azo dyes, Chlorophenol and formaldehyde) that may exist in the tanning process.

The sewage treatment of enterprises must meet the requirements of local sewage discharge. Otherwise, one vote veto can not be added to the leather logo eco leather.

When applying for eligibility for Eco leather, tanning enterprises must provide their product quality inspection reports and inspection reports of major chemical products. At the same time, the inspectors should also check the operation of the sewage treatment facilities and the sewage disposal test reports on the spot, assess the production management, product quality control and welfare of the workers, and then meet the requirements to give their ecological leather qualifications.

The leather association also conducts supervision on all aspects of ecological leather enterprises through annual inspection and regular product quality inspection, so as to ensure the leading role of eco leather enterprises in environmental protection.

At the same time, the leather association has put forward relevant environmental protection requirements for leather label enterprises.

On the one hand, through the daily management of the dermis logo, the quality inspection of the products of the products enterprises will be conducted annually, and the quality of the genuine leather label products must be strictly monitored. If the enterprises fail to conform to the standards, they should be ordered to make regular rectification.

On the other hand, the real leather logo will regularly send information to the products companies on environmental protection aspects of the international trade every month, and guide the leather label enterprises to use environmentally friendly leather to ensure the excellence of the leather logo team.

Over the years, through the implementation of leather logo and leather logo eco leather, not only has enhanced the awareness of environmental protection in the whole industry, but also ensured the coordination of leather production and development with environmental protection, effectively allocated social resources, and basically realized the maximum utility of limited resources.

According to statistics: in 2013, the leather label eco leather enterprises invested 355 million yuan in environmental protection management, an increase of 8.56% compared with the same period last year, and sewage discharge decreased by 3.2% compared with the same period last year. COD emissions decreased by 3% compared with the same period last year, and ammonia nitrogen emissions decreased by 5.4% compared with the same period last year.

In addition, eco leather enterprises also attach more importance to the application of wastewater reuse technology to reduce the consumption of water resources. In 2013, the amount of recycled wastewater from eco leather enterprises increased by 8.3% over the same period last year.

It can be seen that the environmental awareness and ability of ecological leather enterprises are continuously enhancing.

Since 2014, industry standards and industrial policies such as discharge standards for water pollutants in leather making and fur processing industry, standard conditions for leather industry have been formally promulgated and have been implemented step by step.

The new industrial standards and policies not only improve the entry threshold for industries, but also require enterprises from the aspects of pollutant control, cleaner production technology, energy saving and emission reduction equipment application, staff welfare and so on. At the same time, they will also guide the industry to accelerate the pace of elimination of backward production capacity, so that resources can be concentrated to the enterprises with standardized development and provide greater market space for excellent enterprises.

It is precisely in order to meet the needs of the times and the development needs of the industry, since 2012, the China Leather Association has started to combine all the "genuine leather signs" and "genuine leather logo eco leather" enterprises, and formally established the "leather logo and ecological leather cooperation alliance" in 2013.

The establishment of the cooperative alliance will provide a good platform for the strategic cooperation and win-win situation of the upstream and downstream excellent enterprises. It will highlight the eco-environmental value of the independent brand of China's leather industry, enhance the endogenous vitality and motivation of the industry development, and promote the collaborative development of the quality, brand and environmental protection of the leather industry, and guide the industry to develop towards green, low-carbon and environmental protection, and promote the realization of the goal of "beautiful China".
