Shanghai Academy Of Biotechnology Discovered Key Genes For Cotton Fiber Elongation
Recently, the research group of academician Chen Xiaoya, member of the Institute of plant physiology and ecology, Shanghai Academy of Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences has recently identified a key gene, GhHOX3, which controls the elongation of cotton fibers. Through association analysis and genetic localization, the study group found that the spancription factor GhHOX3 containing homeobox was related to elongation of cotton fiber.
Cotton fiber is the most popular among consumers. Textile materials And cotton fiber length is an important index of cotton quality. Relevant personnel said that GhHOX3 was in Fiber elongation It plays an important role in the process, and the expression of GhHOX3 in cotton can make cotton fibers "stretch freely".
The study group found GhHOX3 The gene is hidden in many cotton genes. It is a cotton elongation gene with important breeding value. It can promote the elongation of cotton fiber cells by binding to the negative regulator DELLA protein of gibberellin pathway and responding to the hormone signal.
According to the relevant personage, if the improved cotton varieties will greatly change the length of cotton fiber, it will benefit the downstream production of cotton textile industry.
