Ten Thousand National Costume Elements Construct Fashion Creativity Database

At the second session of the UNESCO Creative City Summit in Beijing yesterday, Irina Bokova, director general of the United Nations Educational, scientific and cultural organization, awarded the "International Centre for creativity and sustainable development" (ICCSD).

The world's first two UNESCO centers on creativity and sustainable development are officially settled in Beijing.

According to introducing, as early as November 2015, the thirty-eighth session of the United Nations Educational, scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) adopted the decision to set up the "center for international creativity and sustainable development" in Beijing.

Over half a year, Beijing has done a lot of work in the selection of office location, organization structure and staffing of ICCSD, which has made adequate preparations for the formal establishment of the center.

Chen Dongliang, director of the promotion center, said that the future work of ICCSD will focus on five aspects: research, information, training, cooperation and demonstration.

Among them, it is mainly to organize and coordinate international intelligence resources to carry out cross disciplinary, cross domain and cross regional research; information work is to establish an international communication and sharing mechanism and form a creative database oriented to global openness and leading edge.

In addition, multi-level, multi form education and training should be carried out at the Chinese, regional and global levels, the online and offline education and training system should be constructed, capacity-building activities should be carried out, and research should be put into practice in designated cities or areas.

Finally, we seek the cooperation mode between culture and sustainable development, creative industry and creative city network, and form a global creative cooperation network.

At the Beijing summit, representatives of the participants will explore the important role of creativity as the starting point to promote the supply side reform and build a sophisticated economic development structure; share the experience and achievements of China in promoting the cultural and creative industries under the new normal economic situation; exchange respect for ethnic differences, tolerance of cultural diversity, and promote the creative pformation and innovative development of the economy, society and environment.

The conference will provide reference for urban construction in China and even in the world, and contribute to the comprehensive implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda in 2030.

Nowadays, these more than 10 thousand traditional dress elements have been included in a database, which realizes seamless connection between designers, garment enterprises and traditional culture.

Even the designer of luxury brand Hermes has tried to use these elements to design and create, and has made a good market reaction.

Bao Tangtao revealed that at present, the database mainly collected the traditional clothing elements of more than ten ethnic minorities such as the Yi, Miao, Buyi and other ethnic groups. The next step will also be to collect traditional costume elements such as Tibetan, Uygur, Kazak and other more ethnic minorities in Tibet and Xinjiang, and further expand the scale of the database.
