At present, this version is limited to the factories which have wet process and wastewater discharge in the textile and garment industry. It is suitable for fiber processing, weaving, dyeing and finishing, water washing, printing and garment making. It is not suitable for cotton production, cattle breeding, slaughterhouses, chemical synthesis industry, polymer synthesis industry and so on.

Lin pointed out that for the conventional water quality parameters and heavy metal parameters, the guide divides water quality into three grades: foundation, good and best.

The basic level of the guide contains 16 parameters, while the current national standard has 13.

According to the guideline, all suppliers of the ZDHC brand contracting parties should ensure that their discharge effluent meets the requirements of the basic level of this guide, and will meet the requirements of the guide's good grades by January 1, 2018 and meet the requirements of the best grade of this guide by January 1, 2020.

Liu Lei believes that the guide has two open meanings: first, the detailed set of toxicity is compared with the comprehensive parameters such as COD and ammonia nitrogen of the national standard; two, it provides quantifiable and directive indicators for the green development of the industry.
