Sustainable Development Has Become A Consensus. Global Fashion Organizations Are In Action.
What is sustainable fashion?
It is related to the natural environment, to social costs and employee benefits, and to the future economy.
It needs the market to have the world outlook, needs the enterprise to have the natural view, needs the development to have the future view.
It not only consumes natural resources, but also can create some natural resources and eventually create a recycling economy.
It needs not only sustainable design and manufacturing, but also sustainable consumption, sustainable brand, sustainable organization and sustainable supply chain.
And so on to build an eco friendly fashion future.
In this issue, sustainability and sustainability will be presented from four dimensions: global fashion brand, association organization, consumption and supply chain.
In January 22nd, Corporate Knights, a Canadian media company, announced the 2019 list of the top 100 global sustainable development enterprises in the global Davos world economic forum.
A total of three categories of textiles, clothing and luxury goods were selected, including Kai Yun group (the world's second largest), Zara parent company Inditex and German sporting goods giant Adidas.
There is no doubt that the three big brands have persistently pursued the concept of sustainable development in their business activities and set an example for the sustainable development of the global textile and garment industry.
However, in the face of enormous burden, the sustainability of the whole industry in the whole world is still too thin.
"Garment and textile industry is the most polluted industry after oil industry."
According to the British fashion business review, "every 1 kilograms of cotton production requires twenty thousand liters of water, which only produce 1 T-shirts and 1 pairs of jeans.
At the same time, all kinds of clothing manufacturing processes including dyeing, washing and decoration will involve 8000 chemicals. "
With the increasingly profound understanding of sustainable development, every participant in the fashion industry chain is increasingly expressing their "environmental awareness", especially non-profit organizations and social organizations.
Global action
In 2009, Copenhagen fashion summit Copenhagen Fashion Summit first convened, invited the global fashion industry's major decision-makers and opinion leaders to focus on fashion related environmental, social and moral issues.
In 2016, the non-profit organization Fashion Revolution released the Fashion Transparency Index fashion pparency index, urging the fashion brand to enhance the pparency of the supply chain.
In 2017, Kai Yun Group officially launched the Chinese version of the environmental profit and loss account and the first WeChat My EP&L for China. In 2018, it first joined the Shanghai fashion week to create the "innovative luxury laboratory".
In May 2018, Fashion Revolution, a British Commonwealth organization dedicated to promoting sustainable fashion development, released the 2018 pparency report on fashion. It further pparently pformed the brand supply chain, the working conditions of its factories, the negative impact of production on the environment, and the policies adopted by the company to treat the labour unions and gender issues.
In December 8, 2018, a total of 43 brands and organizations of fashion and luxury industries signed the UN's "fashion industry climate action charter".
The initial goal of the fashion industry climate action charter is to reduce the total emissions of greenhouse gases in the fashion industry by 30% by 2030, and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
In February 2019, Pure London, supported by the United Nations Office, focused on "sustainable development" and presented a series of public welfare and environmental protection brands.
Stella McCartney, a British designer, has recently set up a Stella McCartney Cares Green focused on sustainable development. It aims to raise funds for environmentalist propagandists, non-governmental environmental organizations and lawyers in related fields.
Global Fashion Agenda, a Copenhagen nonprofit organization that is committed to promoting the concept of sustainable development in the fashion industry, has recently reached a strategic cooperation agreement with Nike, H&M and Li Feng Group. It hopes to help change the operation mode of the fashion industry and make the whole process of production, promotion and marketing more sustainable.
It is also these social and business organizations that guide and publicize the environmental protection and sustainable future. There are more and more stories of marine waste turning into luxury watch bracelet, natural dry flower made of "down garments", "tripe dresses" and "pineapple leather" material bags.
Chinese fashion power
The promotion of global sustainability by China's national institutions and social organizations is also evident.
In January 18th, in order to implement the UN sustainable development agenda for 2030, the Chinese people's Association for friendship with foreign countries jointly launched the "green sustainable development conference" and released the green future plan.
Over the years, the Federation of Chinese textile industry has released "Asia's sustainable Asian Textile Network (STAR)" to the "overseas investment and corporate social responsibility of China's textile and garment industry": the Asian four countries' research report released from "Asia sustainable development and regional cooperation (Shengze) summit" and "sustainable textile production in Asia's textile industry dialogue" to "three year action plan for overseas sustainable development of China's textile and garment industry (2018 to 2020)", through guidelines development, system promotion, capacity building, industry network, in situ support, policy advocacy, international exchange and experience promotion to help Chinese enterprises solve their social responsibility and environmental protection development challenges in the "going out" process.
"At the beginning of the reform and opening up, China began to undertake the pfer of the world's textile industry. There are many doubts about how China will develop the textile industry economy. Time has fully proved that sustainable development is China's determination and plan to build the textile industry."
Sun Ruizhe, President of China Textile Industry Federation, said that after decades of development, technology, fashion and green have become brand new marks of China's textile industry.
It is reported that in 2005, the China Federation of textile industry established the office of social responsibility. This is the first permanent department in China to promote sustainable development of industry, and has established the first social responsibility management system CSC9000T in China.
Up to now, guided by CSC9000T, it has served 13 industrial clusters in the industry with about 1500 enterprises, involving 1 million industrial workers.
Sun Ruizhe said that in order to pfer the value of sustainable development to the upstream and downstream of the global supply chain, in 2012, China Textile Federation and BSCI, SA8000 and WRAP launched the multi system dialogue and coordination platform, "China Advisory Committee on social responsibility system cooperation" (MAC). At present, there are 8 standard systems to carry out dialogues under this mechanism to solve the problem of trade inefficiency caused by "value barrier".
At the same time, they have maintained strategic partnership with ZDHC foundation and 23 international brands in chemical management, and developed CiE system for chemicals online management platform. At present, it has collected more than 10000 chemical information and served more than 200 enterprises.
China Textile Alliance also issued the "carbon management innovation 2020 action carbon emissions measurement". In the next 3 years, water management innovation action plan and recycling management innovation action plan will also be released, and the industry environment and ecological data system will be formed to provide an environmental responsibility big data platform for the global textile and garment supply chain.
"These actions aim at finishing the green development goal of the textile industry in 13th Five-Year, promoting the textile industry's energy conservation and emission reduction, developing low-carbon green, recycling economy, and promoting the pformation and upgrading of the industry. By 2020, the energy consumption of the textile industry will increase by 18%."
Yan Yan, director of social responsibility Office of China Textile Industry Federation and deputy director of China Textile Information Center, said.
It is precisely because of the joint efforts of fashion organizations around the world that the future of fashion is more desirable.
