Former Business Destroyer Amazon Is Now A Real Retail Saver.
Owners of shopping centers have long accused the Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) of disrupting their business, Inc. said.
Now, some owners are starting to see Amazon as a potential savior.
Sears Holdings Corp. (SHLD) and Messi's s Inc. (M) have closed stores, many shopping centres are also difficult to attract high-profile tenants to enter idle paving, but the online retail giant Amazon has been expanding the physical retail business.
Whole Foods Market Inc. (WFM) chief executive told a forum last week that after stopping the development of a small store trial project named 365, Amazon plans to open more Whole Foods stores, which may include some new outlets.
Amazon is also trying to open different types of physical stores, such as bookstores and flash shops.
In addition, the company is experimenting with the Amazon Go's unregistered convenience stores and the sale of four star stores on four star and above rating products on its website.
The Wall Street Journal quoted five people last week as saying that Amazon plans to launch a new grocery chain store and set up dozens of stores in major cities in the United States, which will be one of the most powerful initiatives for the company to enter the physical retail industry so far in the Wall.
Federal Realty Investment Trust chief executive, Don Wood, welcomed Amazon's entry into the grocery industry.
The real estate owned by Federal Realty includes Santana Row in San Jose, California and Pike & Rose in Bethesda, Maryland.
Brokerage firms and property owners believe that Amazon has the advantage of attracting the right shopping crowd compared with other retailers, because of its large number of consumer data, it can be seen which commodities are most popular in specific locations.
The convenience offered by e-commerce retailers and often cheaper prices make it possible for Amazon to see opportunities for the failure of many shopping centres that are unable to compete with them.
At present, the company is occupying the space in the closed shopping malls such as Randall Park Mall and Euclid Square Mall in Ohio and converting it into the order fulfillment center.
But in recent years, Amazon has become a highly sought after retail tenant.
In November 2015, Amazon unveiled its first physical bookstore in Seattle, and launched a flash store in shopping malls and shopping malls.
The following year, the company opened about 20 flash shops in the mall, each store occupying hundreds of square feet of space, displaying voice assistant speakers, tablet computers, Kindle and other equipment.
According to information from Amazon website, the company now has three four star stores in New York, Colorado and California, and has more than 80 flash stores and 18 bookstores in 22 states and Washington, D.C.
Over the past two years, Amazon has opened many flash stores in the department store of Kohl s Corp. (KSS).
In 2017, Kohl 's reached a cooperation agreement with Amazon, allowing the customer of the big business giant to return products at Kohl' s store.
Amazon also intends to introduce more of its own unpaid convenience stores, people familiar with the matter said.
