Mexico Increases Import Tariffs On Some Textile Garments
In order to effectively manage and prevent the low price of imported textile and garment products, Mexico announced in April 10th (2019) that it should modify the administrative orders of the customs import and export tariff code of Mexico.
(1) according to the administrative decree issued by the government of Mexico on improving the productivity and competitiveness of the textile and garment industry in Mexico in December 26, 2014 and the related measures to lower the prices of imported textile and garment products, it is imperative that the Ministry of economic affairs and the Ministry of finance should adopt effective measures. In order to further effectively manage and prevent the phenomenon of low reported imports of textile and garment products, it is urgent to revise the Customs Tariff of Mexico. In particular, for the fifty-fifth, fifty-ninth, sixtieth, 61, 62, 63 and 94 chapters, the tax adjustment of textile garments products (detailed list annex) will be added. 213 new tax numbers, 3 product descriptions and 3 tax numbers will be added, and 69 tax rates will be abolished, and will be effective after the announcement of 15 days (April 25th).
(two) to increase the provisional import tariff rate of 66 textile and garment products to 25%, for a period of 180 days, and to take effect 15 days after the announcement.
(3) 210 products will be lowered to 20% after 180 days from the commencement of this announcement.
