Kai Yun Group Will No Longer Hire Models Under 18 Years Of Age.
Kering (Kai Yun group) announced on Wednesday that its brand will only employ models over 18 years old to participate in fashion shows and fashion blockbusters starting in 2020.
Fran ois-Henri Pinault, President and chief executive officer of Kai Yun, said: "as a global luxury group, we know the impact of brand image on the outside world, especially for the younger generation.
It is our responsibility to set an example for the entire luxury industry. We hope that more companies will be involved in such an action.
The career of a model is very stressful. Every year many new people disappear after their debut. There are many potential risks in their working environment, such as sexual harassment, eating disorders, poor financial management, etc.
Marie-Claire Daveu, chief sustainability officer and head of international affairs at Kai Yun, said.
"The physiological and psychological maturity of models over the age of 18 is more in line with the rhythm and requirements of the model."
In September 2017, France's two luxury giants, Kering and LVMH, jointly issued a statute, saying it would curb its major brands from hiring too thin models in shows and advertising campaigns.
This action was praised by the media as "showing the noble moral character of integrity, sense of responsibility and respect for the people in the industry".
Another key issue in the statute is the age of the model. Models under the age of 16 will no longer appear in LVMH or Kering's brand shows or advertisements.
Models aged 16 to 18 will also be restricted by more specific rules.
