The formation of "riverside cloth Street" in the early 80s of last century


Shaoxing textile history has a long history, as early as the Sui and Tang Dynasties, Yue Luo has been known throughout the country. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was "time to smell the sound of the machine, and to rise at the sun." The three years from 1918 to 1920 were the heyday of Keqiao's silk industry. At that time, there were 2800 organic shops and 200 thousand silk fabrics each year. After a variety of reasons, Shaoxing's silk industry is declining.


In the early 80s of the last century, the spring breeze of reform and opening up was blowing all over the world. People reclaimed the old textile industry. In light of the relatively dense textile enterprises and relatively convenient transportation in Keqiao, they set up the stalls and sold them on the spot, gradually forming a cloth street beside the river. A large number of peddling sellers of cloth were holding strong sharp words, and bargaining with a foreign merchant on a narrow street which was only four hundred or five hundred meters long along the river.


The old riverside Street attracted buyers from all over the country. In July 1985, at that time, Shaoxing county invested in the western side of Keqiao to invest in the construction of a 3500 square meter shanty style "Keqiao textile market", with 77 outlets and 89 stalls. The first generation of light textile market came into being, and the textile industry began to rise. This is also the rudiment of China's textile city.


In 1987, at that time, the county Party committee and county government decided to build a multifunctional and closed "Shaoxing textile market", which was listed as one of the ten major practical projects of the government. In October 1, 1988, the Shaoxing light textile market, which covers an area of 17000 square meters, a building area of 23200 square meters and a total investment of 6 million 600 thousand yuan, was opened and became the largest indoor professional market in Zhejiang.

In January 1997, with the approval of the SFC, China Textile City issued a public interest to the public. In February of the same year, the "light textile city" stock (transaction code 600790) was circulated on the Shanghai stock exchange.


Over the years, under the correct leadership of the government, China Textile City has been in the tide of harmonious development. To date, there are 21 markets in the textile trading area of textile city. In addition to the fabric trading area, there are warehousing and logistics areas, raw materials trading areas, innovation and development zones, and international trade zones, forming the five major market patterns of "East, West, North and South" and become the "new wind direction" of the global textile market.


"I came to Keqiao to start a business in 90s with my relatives and friends. The China Light Textile City is a wealth gathering place. I have excavated the first pot of gold in my life here." Wang Xinsheng, a businessman in Yueqing, recalled that he could be said to be the first foreign businessman to start a business in Textile City, and witnessed the development and transformation of the textile market. Now he is the vice president of Yueqing chamber of Commerce in China Textile City. He not only opened a company in Times Square, but also led more Yueqing merchants to actively integrate into the entrepreneurial boom of Keqiao.
