During the peak period, the average daily handling capacity will reach 350 million, more than 2 times the daily handling capacity.

In November 12, 2018, the notice issued by the State Post Office showed that in 2018, the number of parcels and postal packages collected by double 11 was 416 million, an increase of 25.68% over the same period last year. At the same time, the State Post Office monitoring information shows that during the peak period of -16 November 11, 2018, the postal and express enterprises handled 1 billion 882 million packages, an increase of 25.8% over the same period.

In contrast, this year's double 11 peak period, whether it is the total number of packages handled by the industry, or the number of packages on the double 11 day, is likely to hit a record high.

In the wake of the rise of the electricity supplier industry, China's express industry also presents a rapid development trend. The large number of express parcels has brought convenience to consumers' lives, but also brought a lot of express packaging garbage. Most of them were discarded directly, which caused a great impact on the ecological environment.

At the 2019 China Express "last mile" summit, "2019 China express green development status and trend report" shows that as China's express packaging usage continues to rise, resource consumption and pollution problems can not be ignored, and the pressure on ecological environment is increasing.

The issue of environmental protection of express packaging has a long history. In fact, when the mainstream express companies such as "four links and one reached" were established, this problem has come into being. With the innovation of China's package rate, the problem of packaging and environmental protection has been dramatically enlarged, which has become a huge social problem and has attracted the attention of the relevant departments of the state.

As early as three years ago, the implementation plan of "promoting the green packaging of express industry" was released, which clearly stipulated the overall goal of the packaging work of express packaging industry, and put forward the steady development of the packaging industry in the express industry according to law, production, saving, recycling, and effective reuse, so as to achieve "low pollution, low consumption, low emissions, high efficiency, high efficiency and high efficiency" green development.

In May 1st last year, the Provisional Regulations on express delivery put forward requirements for express packaging, encouraging the use of degradable and environmentally friendly packaging materials, and encouraging enterprises to recycle packaging materials, so as to achieve the reduction of packaging materials.

In order to understand the environmental protection situation of the express delivery package, the State Post Office also sent a research team jointly with the NDRC, the Ministry of justice, the Ministry of ecology and environment, the Ministry of housing and urban rural development and the Ministry of Commerce in October this year to carry out a thorough investigation of the packaging situation in the express field in Beijing, Shaanxi, Chongqing, Liaoning, Hubei, Zhejiang and Guangdong.

For a time, from the state to the local level, departments at all levels have taken actions to put into the environmental protection war of the express packaging field. The situation is gratifying, but it also reflects the environmental problems brought about by the use of express packaging in China, which is already very severe, and has entered into the "deep water area" which has to be fully addressed.

Under the high priority and positive response of the state and departments, the environmental protection problem of express packaging has been improved to a certain extent, but it is undeniable that it is still difficult to solve this problem thoroughly and properly handle it.

According to Zhu Lei, vice president of the Qingdao Research Institute of Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, the overall recovery rate of packaging waste is less than 20%, and the recovery rate is more close to zero than the plastic components such as filler and adhesive tape in express packaging.

According to the data released by the State Post Office, the proportion of express packaging garbage in domestic waste is increasing in mega cities in China. The former has accounted for 93% of the latter, and some 85% of the largest cities are 90%. A green express packaging tough battle is imperative.

In order to reduce the consumption of plastic products on express packaging, it is necessary to increase the use of recyclable environmental protection packaging materials. China Express Association said that the high cost of environmental protection materials has become the bottleneck of the packaging industry in the express industry. The head of Southwest express area of a courier company revealed that the price of no tape carton and environmental express bag is almost 1.5 times to 2 times that of ordinary carton and express bag, and the price of wet kraft paper tape is 5 times that of ordinary adhesive tape.

According to relevant media, Jingdong only adds about twenty million yuan a year to fresh products after using biodegradable packaging bags. The budget of SF in the Green Express "Feng BOX" project was 55 million yuan in 2018, 150 million yuan in 2019 and 350 million yuan in 2020. In the delivery of green packaging, continuous large-scale investment, small and medium-sized express enterprises will be difficult to bear.

In addition, the public awareness of green energy conservation and environmental protection in the whole society is not strong, which is also a major reason for increasing the problem of express packaging garbage. Many businesses in order to avoid damage in the transportation process of goods, the amount of tape and filler is very large, which leads to the inevitable excessive packaging. Most of the packaging materials such as foam and bubble film outside the carton can only be incinerated or burying with domestic waste, which aggravates environmental pollution.

It is gratifying to note that with double 11 express season approaching, express packaging "thin green" has become an important concern for major express logistics enterprises, and a series of measures are being implemented.

At the same time, the cognition of younger generation of consumers on "Green Express" issues is also deepening. Although the problem of "slimming green" in the express package is not easy to solve, we believe the prospect is bright.
