    IndustryTextilesNonwovensExhibitionsResearch Reports

With the introduction of the strategy of "one belt and one road", the establishment of regional comprehensive economic partnership (RCEP) and the establishment of the "Bangladesh China Burmese economic corridor", China and India's economic and trade development also ushered in new opportunities and challenges. India is a pivotal power, an important market and an overseas investor country in the "one belt and one way" strategy. Its development affects the economic development pattern of Asia and the world. In order to better understand the development status and future trend of India's industrial textiles industry, the China Industrial Textiles Association and the China Textile Promotion Association participated in the 2019 India industrial textiles and nonwovens Exhibition (TTI2019) and related activities sponsored by Frankfurt exhibition company (India), and conducted in-depth communication and exchange with exhibitors. The survey is summarized below.

    I. The overall situation of India

India is located in South Asia and is the largest country in the subcontinent of South Asia. It borders the bay of Bengal in the East and the Arabia sea in the West. The coastline is 5560 kilometers long. Its land area is 2 million 980 thousand square kilometers, with a total population of 1 billion 370 million, accounting for 18% of the total population of the world. It consists of more than 100 nationalities and the main ethnic group is the India stans. In 2018, India's gross domestic product (GDP) reached US $2 trillion and 730 billion, and its growth rate reached 7.4%. It has grown into one of the fastest growing emerging economies in the world. Its economic and industrial sectors are diversified, covering agriculture, handicrafts, textiles and services. Textile industry is the second largest industry after agriculture. About 26% of India's output is from textiles. The five top states in the textile industry are Gujarat, Punjab, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Among them, the mondra District of Gujarat and some parts of southern India have established special economic zones for industrial textiles and nonwoven industries. According to relevant reports, India now has young people under 800 million and 35 years old, who can provide abundant labor resources for the textile industry. The textile industry in India has reached 35 million of its working population. The average monthly wage of textile workers is about 200~250 dollars, and the labor cost is relatively low.

In 2018, India launched a stimulus package of 60 billion rupees (US $860 million) to promote the development of India's textile and garment industry, and to strengthen financial support for small businesses. The signing of the regional comprehensive economic partnership agreement (RCEP) will enable India to gradually reduce tariffs on 80% of China's products. In the future, it is possible to eliminate "tariffs" immediately from 28% of China's products, and gradually reduce tariffs on the remaining 72% of the commodities in 5, 10, 15 and 20 years. In addition, the government of India has introduced many supporting policies including "TUFS" and "SITP plan", including interest, financial support, green process support and staff training.

Two. Development of India's industrial textiles industry

India's industrial textiles industry is one of the fastest growing areas of all textile industry. It is mainly divided into 12 categories, about 2200 enterprises, the main products are gunny bags, cord fabrics, sports shoes materials, elastic belts and fishing nets.

According to the relevant data of Frankfurt India company, the scale of India's industrial textiles market in 2018 reached about 16 billion 600 million US dollars, with an average annual growth rate of about 20%, and it is expected to reach 28 billion 700 million US dollars in 2021. Industrial textiles currently share only 13% of India's textile value chain. Among them, the 5 key areas of high value application in India's industrial textiles market are packaging textiles (41.6%), industrial textiles (11.3%), household decorative products (10.4%), transport textiles (9.8%), industrial clothing and footwear (9.8%).

The rapid development of industrial textiles in India has also benefited from changes in Indian ideas, domestic demand growth and healthy export demand. Nonwoven fabrics, as an important part of industrial textiles, have significantly increased consumption and export volume in recent years in India. The annual growth rate of nonwovens industry is basically maintained at around 15%. In 2018, the output of India nonwovens was about 500 thousand tons, of which spunbonded nonwoven production accounted for about 45% of the total output. Unlike other emerging countries, the India government is very concerned about innovative nonwovens, and the country has developed the nonwovens industry as a national development plan and invested heavily in research and development in the industry. At present, the development of industrial textiles in India still faces many obstacles, such as weak infrastructure, inefficient personnel and difficult access to capital.

Medical and health textiles. Products such as wipes, sanitary napkins and baby diapers are well developed in India market. At present, many women in poor rural areas in India have not yet used sanitary napkins. The government is actively taking corresponding measures to promote women's health products in Dali. With the transformation of diaper products sales mode and the increase of disposable income in India hospitals and retail organizations, the development of diaper market will be promoted. According to the relevant agencies, India baby diapers have a market prospect of about 47 billion.

Textiles for geotechnical construction. The government of India plans to invest 100 trillion rupees (US $1 trillion and 400 billion) in infrastructure construction in the next 5 years, including transportation, airports, ports, bridges, communications, water conservancy and urban water supply and drainage. This provides huge market space for geotextiles, geomembrane, geogrids, and waterproofing tire fabrics. In addition, India's defense, safety, health, road and other infrastructure construction will also provide huge opportunities for the industrial textiles industry and enterprises.

Three. India industrial textiles nonwovens Exhibition (TTI2019)

November 20-22, 2019 India industrial textiles and nonwovens Exhibition (TTI2019) opened in Mumbai Exhibition Center, India. The exhibition attracted 192 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions, including China, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Korea, India, Holland, Saudi Arabia, Spain and China, exhibiting an area of 7560m2 and 5436 professional spectators. The exhibition range mainly includes various industrial textiles, nonwovens, and related equipment, fiber materials, composite materials, chemicals, testing instruments and so on in construction, geotechnical, medical and health, transportation and other fields.

The exhibition was unveiled by Shri AjitChavan, Secretary of the textiles Department of India textile department. According to the introduction, the total area of this year's exhibition increased by 17% compared with the previous one, and the number of exhibitors increased by 23% compared with the previous one. The number of international exhibitors increased by 25% compared with the previous one. During the same period, India industrial textile seminar was held. The market prospect and development trend of India industrial textiles and nonwovens were mainly discussed. Stoll, Perlon, Europlasma, Luwa, Leister Technologies and other companies also held product launches during the exhibition, introducing new type of shoes, 2D, 3D knitted fabrics and accessories, new super UV protectors that can make traffic textiles more light resistant, polyester sports, high energy disperse dyes, and water based textile coating adhesives for tea bags and coffee fillers.

48 exhibitors from China, including Heng Tian heavy industries, Dalian Huayang, quantum gold boat, Suo Li De, Ying Yang, Zhen Tai, Fei long, Wei Cheng, Guang Yu, Gu Tong Dao, Hai Lide, etc., are exhibiting near 600m2. Among the exhibitors, 23 were mainly equipment and accessories enterprises, accounting for 48% of the total number of exhibitors. Due to the rapid development of India's industrial textiles industry, a large number of local textile enterprises in India plan to introduce new equipment to expand production capacity, bringing new market opportunities for domestic equipment enterprises. In addition, there are 8 domestic fiber enterprises and auxiliaries, 16 nonwovens and products enterprises. This year's domestic exhibitors are satisfied with the results of the exhibition, and generally agree that India has a large and strong domestic demand consumer market, which has huge potential for development.
