Shoes Will Lose Part Of The Footwear Market? 4 Top Buyers In The Industry Predict The Trend Of The Season.
At the end of the recent fashion week in Milan, Paris and Copenhagen, the brands brought splendid 2020 autumn and winter series. Buyers from all over the world are also making unremitting efforts to take the lead in the competition.
In order to know the real interest of the top men's clothing buyers this season, we interviewed 4 well-known buyers: MatchesFashion Damien Paul, SEVENSTORE Mark Macdonald, Browns Thom Scherdel and LN-CC Reece Reece. In their interviews, they expressed their views on this week's fashion week and predicted the trend of outgoing and noteworthy fashion trends.
What brands and single products do you think are good this season?
Damien Paul (MatchesFashion man in charge): I think Craig Green is very much loved at the show in Paris, and I am very glad to see a British designer in Paris. The Loewe of Jonathan Anderson is also very strong. It is highly forward-looking and the result of execution is excellent. The same is true of Rick Owens. The unique Gothic charm has never been disappointing.
Mark Macdonald (SEVENSTORE purchasing leader): I think there are Raf Simons and Homme Plisse Issey Miyake, Wander pants and coat, the shoes of Li-Ning are also eye-catching.
Thom Scherdel (Browns menswear purchasing manager): I think Casablanca's new product is excellent. As a famous holiday brand, their transition from beach dress to ski suit is perfect. Other brands feel the same. The Alyx, Bode, Raf and Craig Green still adhere to the brand spirit and create a lot of better product lines. Prada is worthy of Prada. It only makes people feel that the entire wardrobe is completely out of date. Kim Jones continues to make Dior a paragon through exquisite workmanship and details.
Reece Crisp (LN-CC purchasing and creative director):Marni's show is a real highlight. I like their series very much, and focus on forward-looking and information. Yohji, as usual, but also a little different, I don't know how to do it, which surprised me very much. The first performance of Doublet is not disappointing. This series is excellent and the way of presentation is unforgettable.
Shoes will lose part of the footwear market share, a fairer market is coming.
Are there any noteworthy fashion trends?
Damien Paul: I can say for sure that MatchesFashion will sell lots of boots that are enough to attract eyeballs this fall. At that time, these boots will be everywhere, including the high knee version, which is very exciting, because after more than 10 years of shoes rule, leather shoes / boots will gradually return.
Mark Macdonald: outdoor trend. In fashion, it is still a key area. Clothing with military colors and soft fabrics are also beginning to appear. We have seen this in many brands. The luxurious knitwear of low-key and extra large from Acne, Dries and Undercover also has boundless scenery.
Thom Scherdel: the making of coats is becoming more and more elaborate. You can see more raincoats, tailored coats and windbreaker than hoodies and sports coats. In the old coat, the top and bottom were covered with soft colors, or with full color to emphasize the appearance. Now, the coat is full of exotic animal designs, such as stingray, and complex hand painted leopard prints and artificial patterns.
Reece Crisp: boots are very bright everywhere, so we will definitely focus on them. Whether Chelsea or bandage boots, their iconic features are tooling style or military style. As many brands began to raise their quotations, we also noticed a lot of tailoring during this period. We also bought costumes which are contrary to classical style and more forward-looking.
What trend will be out of date this year?
Damien Paul: the influence of sportswear is obviously weakening.
Mark Macdonald: conjoined clothing will gradually become unfashionable, and wash and natural fabrics will stand out.
For us, this is all about the way and influence of brand story telling.
Thom Scherdel: we are beginning to notice that sneakers are most likely to be out of fashion, because people who walk on the front end of fashion are still passionate about leather shoes and casual boots, and we are slowly starting to witness this. I think FW20 will make shoes shoes lose part of the footwear market, a fairer market is coming.
Reece Crisp: fashion is becoming more sophisticated now, so I think we will see the change from the super contour to the more intimate version.
What do you think consumers want but do not have at the moment?
Damien Paul:Craig Green, Loewe, Raf and Rick Owens really have excellent and perfect works. These works are not only popular, but also can be stored.
Mark Macdonald: this problem is too difficult! In the long run, it is very important to establish a visible sustainable development path; from the product itself, if Raf Simons can release 10 Archive single products, it will be great.
Thom Scherdel: reasonable price and sustainability.
Reece Crisp: more options for sustainable fashion brands.
How do you think retailers should choose products to make them different?
Damien Paul:MatchesFashion is well known for its support for emerging fashion talents. Our customers are very keen on new trends.
Mark Macdonald: how to market the product and how to tell your story is very important. SEVENSTORE will try to focus on the main trends and convey these trends to consumers in an appropriate way.
Thom Scherdel: Nowadays, the world is very small, and demand is mainly concentrated on several brands. Therefore, it is becoming increasingly difficult to rely on choices to make retailers stand out globally. For us, this is all about storytelling and influence. We choose the brand that we can cooperate to produce exclusive clothing, and create very good content to help us to tell our own story.
Reece Crisp:LN-CC focuses on choosing products that other retailers do not have. We will not search for the best selling products. Of course, we will add business elements to every purchase, but we still want to be forward-looking. We will also launch a series of initiatives this year, focusing on sustainable development and complementing our sincere services. Our goal is to enable all of our brands and partners to participate in at least one of our many projects.
What fashion stars will you focus on?
Mark Macdonald: I won't know until a month later.
Thom Scherdel: I think Paria Farzaneh has found a good balance between the true conceptual design integrity and business acumen. For me, she is the Saviour of London Fashion week. I think she has a bright future. Ahluwalia Studio and Bianca Saunders also bring amazing power in their own unique way.
Reece Crisp:Eli Russell Linnetz surprised us, and CamperLab also had a bright spot. Eden Power Corp's new SS20 series, Y/Project x Canada Goose's cooperation series can be called epic.
