Effect Of Temperature And Humidity On Properties Of Cotton Fiber
As we all know, the properties of cotton fiber are directly related to the quality of cotton yarn. There are many factors that affect the performance of the cotton fabric. For example, selection, picking, processing and processing environment may affect the properties of cotton fiber.
1, the influence of moisture absorption on cotton fiber
In the production, moisture regain is used to measure fiber hygroscopicity. The factors affecting fiber moisture regain are divided into two factors, internal and external factors. The internal factors mainly depend on the number of hydrophilic groups and hydrophilic properties, the crystallinity of fibers and the size and number of fibers in the fibers. Cotton fibers are porous substances, and there are many hydrophilic groups (OH) on the cellulose macromolecules, so their hygroscopicity is better. External factors include ambient air environment, storage time and moisture absorption and moisture release process, among which air temperature and humidity are the most important. The relative humidity of the surrounding air is large and the moisture absorption of the fiber increases. When the relative humidity is constant, the moisture absorption property of the fiber decreases with the increase of temperature. If the moisture regain of the fiber is kept constant, the relative humidity is slightly larger when the air temperature is high, and the relative humidity is smaller when the temperature is low.
2, the impact on the strength of cotton fiber
Humidity is closely related to fiber strength in various physical properties of fibers. The moisture content of cotton fibers increases, and the length of the long molecular chain increases and improves.
3. Effect on cotton fiber elongation and softness
Textile fibers and products must be stretched by external forces during their processing or using process, and produce corresponding elongation and deformation. Due to the increase of distance between molecules, the relative displacement of the fibers is very easy to increase because of the increase of relative humidity. Temperature has little effect on elongation.
In terms of softness, relative humidity increased, and the distance between molecules increased after moisture absorption. As a result, fiber softness increased, hardness and brittleness decreased, plasticity and resilience decreased. Because cotton fiber has cotton wax on the surface, it is very sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity. Cotton fibers soften as cotton wax softens at high temperatures. If the temperature is too high, the cotton wax will start to melt and become sticky. When the temperature is too low, the hardness of cotton wax becomes weak due to the hardening phenomenon of cotton wax, which will adversely affect spinning process.
4. Effect on the conductivity of cotton fiber
Cotton fiber is a poor conductor of electricity. When it is processed, it produces static electricity by friction with mechanical surfaces or fibers, so that the fibers are adsorbed on the surface of the machine parts, which hinders the smooth process of fiber drafting, carding and winding, and affects the quality of yarn. In order to mitigate the adverse effects, for fibers with certain hygroscopicity such as cotton fibers, the moisture regain can be improved by increasing the relative humidity and the electrical conductivity of the fibers will be enhanced. The conductivity of the fiber will be enhanced when the temperature rises, but when the temperature is too high, the cotton wax will melt, and it will easily occur around the cots and rollers, which will affect the production.
