"At present, the transformation of manufacturing industry to intelligence is imperative." On September 27, at the 2020 China intelligent manufacturing industry annual conference hosted by 21st century economic report, Wang Xiaolan, head of global manufacturing engineering of Lenovo Group, delivered a keynote speech, saying that "building new infrastructure innovation mode and implementing local technology solutions will bring new imagination space for manufacturing industry."

As a global manufacturing leader, Lenovo Group's practice is undoubtedly in the forefront. On the same day, Lenovo won the "intelligent factory of the year" in the 2020 "Great Wall" award of Intelligent Manufacturing in China.

Layout of three major tracks

In fact, according to the latest research report released by markets and markets, the global intelligent manufacturing market will reach US $214.7 billion in 2020, and it is estimated that this figure will increase to $384.8 billion by 2025, with a compound annual growth rate of about 12.4%.

It has more than 30 production bases in the world, and sends products to the world through the supply chain network, with an annual revenue of more than 51 billion US dollars As a representative of the world's top manufacturing enterprises, Lenovo Group has already deviated from the traditional manufacturing mode.

Wang Xiaolan introduced that with the arrival of 5g and AI, Lenovo has carried out layout on three tracks: intelligent Internet of things, intelligent infrastructure and industry intelligence. At present, Lenovo Group has Lenovo Research Institute, AI laboratory, cloud network integration division, etc., and has a complete solution of intelligent manufacturing independent technology.

In addition, Wang Xiaolan disclosed that Lenovo has invested RMB 2 billion to build a southern base in Shenzhen. It will also become a beacon like intelligent factory for Lenovo Group and even the global manufacturing industry, thus forming an "iron triangle" pattern of Lenovo intelligent manufacturing with Hefei Lianbao PC factory and Wuhan mobile base. The foundation of the plant was completed in March this year and is expected to be put into operation in 2022.

The reason why Lenovo continues to lay out intelligent manufacturing is due to various factors. "At present, the external environment has changed a lot. Since last year, we have obviously felt that the global uncertainty is increasing. At the beginning of this year, Lenovo has been faced with a great challenge. Affected by the epidemic situation, the supply chain pressed the pause button, causing a drag on orders." Wang Xiaolan said frankly.

However, in her view, the epidemic is not only a turning point, but also a touchstone for enterprises. During the first quarter of 2020, Lenovo took a full-scale operation to complete the epidemic in Shenzhen in the first quarter of 2020. Lenovo Wuhan factory, which is located at the core of the epidemic, also completed the resumption of work and production within 70 days, becoming the first enterprise in Wuhan to achieve full resumption of production after the epidemic. All these benefits from the strong toughness and agility of Lenovo Group's supply chain.

Therefore, Wang Xiaolan stressed that the current manufacturing enterprises need to expand from the current "small manufacturing" to the "large manufacturing" including research and production collaboration, optimize the whole value chain, improve the internal skills, accelerate the application of new technologies, and break through the "blocking points" of the supply chain and the industrial chain.

From internal training to external empowerment

In September this year, Lenovo Group released the white paper of Lenovo intelligent manufacturing in Beijing. The white paper points out that in the process of promoting intelligent transformation, Lenovo always takes intelligent manufacturing as the core, and builds an efficient supply chain system by promoting intelligent supply chain delivery, factory intelligence and logistics intelligence.

At the same time, the extension and expansion of intelligent manufacturing should not be limited to the internal of the company, but should jointly build the ability of end-to-end intelligence by building an ecosystem.

From internal training to external empowerment, Lenovo realized the landing of new technology and returned to manufacturing connotation. First of all, in Lenovo's intelligent manufacturing system, technology is the core driving force to promote intelligent change. Based on the in-depth research and understanding of industry change and technology evolution, and combined with its own practice, Lenovo has summed up five core capabilities of intelligent manufacturing, namely, "interconnection and interoperability, flexible manufacturing, virtual and real-world integration, closed-loop quality, and intelligent decision-making".

Based on the accumulation and practice of the five capabilities, Lenovo has made remarkable achievements in four aspects: product personalization, supply coordination, service initiative and decision intelligence.

Wang Xiaolan pointed out that from the internal point of view, Lenovo has built an internal manufacturing system with high quality, high delivery and competitiveness. It meets the needs of users through agile production transformation and manufacturing, and creates global total value through the extreme and standardized management system. The foundation of all this lies in the clear underlying blueprint design, and superimposed on the top-down practical exploration.

Lenovo's technology not only stays in the transformation of its own intelligent manufacturing capacity, but also continues to carry out external empowerment, involving end-to-end collaborative innovation and optimization, incubation of new technologies and new models, accelerating intelligent transformation, and enabling the industrial chain.
