Using Virtual Simulation Technology And Digital Technology To Make The Beauty Of Traditional Clothing More Vivid
At the Huangyan Museum in Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, a "digital person" made people stand out: wearing a gauze robe and bowing with both hands, his expression was lifelike.
"This is Zhao Boxuan, the seventh grandson of Zhao Kuangyin, the first emperor of the Song Dynasty, who was restored." The staff of the Huangyan Museum said, "It is worth noting that this dress is on him." When the reporter looked carefully, the digital gauze gown was like a real silk, flexible and elegant.
"This is the bright gauze gown with lotus pattern handed over by the Southern Song Dynasty. It is a national first-class cultural relic with a history of more than 800 years. It was honored as the" crown of Song clothing "due to its exquisite weaving technology, and once appeared at the G20 Hangzhou Summit." Zhao Anru, deputy curator of the Huangyan Museum, introduced that this authentic gauze gown was collected in the Huangyan Museum.
However, it is not easy for ordinary audiences to see the true appearance of the bright gauze gown with lotus pattern handed over by the Southern Song Dynasty. "Silk cultural relics are sensitive to light. In order to avoid damage to cultural relics, there are strict requirements for light intensity during the exhibition. Cultural relics also need to be 'put into storage and sleep' after exhibition, and kept away from light," said Zhao Anru.
In order to better display the silk relics in the museum to the audience, Huangyan Museum has chosen digital means. The restoration exhibition was completed by the digital fashion team of Zhejiang Modern Textile Technology Innovation Center. The team used 3D virtual simulation technology to restore six silk cultural relics, such as the Southern Song Dynasty's lotus patterned bright ground yarn gown, the Southern Song Dynasty's silk blouse with two butterflies on the opposite front and branch threads.
"There are few materials for reference, which adds a lot of difficulties to the restoration of the gauze gown." Qian Diqing, a team member and teacher from the School of International Fashion Technology of Zhejiang University of Technology, experienced the whole process of restoration.
The digital restoration of clothing cultural relics is mainly divided into fabric pattern restoration and clothing pattern restoration. The team used digital media technology and 3D graphics and image technology to digitally restore clothing patterns, fabric structures, clothing styles, clothing wearing status and other aspects.
According to Qian Diqing, digital restoration can be roughly divided into three steps. The team first carried out fine scanning of clothing pictures, and then relevant technicians carried out mapping and AI restoration; Next, the technicians used 3D technology to restore the physical properties of the clothes by observing the fabric structure of the clothes in the data, highlighting the characteristics of light, soft, thin and transparent silk fabrics; Finally, put the clothes on the "digital person".
The clothing of the Song Dynasty has the characteristics of transparent fabric texture, vivid and elegant patterns and colors. "In the process of restoration, the pressure of color comparison is the greatest." Qian Diqing said, "because the silk relics have undergone oxidation after being unearthed, resulting in color distortion and blurred patterns. For this reason, the team finally determined the color of the clothing after consulting a large number of literature and repeatedly confirming with the museum, and then compared and restored it."
Compared with ordinary cultural relics, the restoration of clothing cultural relics is more difficult. "The shape and material of utensils and other cultural relics are relatively fixed, while the fabric cultural relics are flexible, so the material is easily damaged and the shape is difficult to maintain, so it is difficult to restore them." Qian Diqing said, "We can see the whole appearance of clothing more clearly by restoring the fabric structure and pattern of clothing, which is of positive significance for pattern research and pattern application."
In Zhao Anru's view, using digital technologies such as virtual simulation technology to vividly reproduce precious clothing relics is an innovative inheritance of traditional clothing culture. Digital means can not only display cultural relics vividly and interestingly, but also innovate the way of cultural relics protection, enabling the public to appreciate cultural relics in an all-round way and feel the charm of cultural relics.
