From Mahjong To Woolen Knitting, Chengdu "Panda" Brings Knitting Works To The International Stage

In Shizi Community, Chenghua District, Chengdu, there is a "Panda Xiuniang Knitting Cultural and Creative Team", whose members are affectionately known as "Panda Xiuniang" ("Panda Xiuniang", meaning aunt in Sichuan dialect) by the surrounding residents. In a few days, the giant panda themed cultural and creative products woven by these "pandas" will go abroad to Italy to participate in the Milan International Crafts Fair.

The "Panda Xiuniang Knitting Cultural and Creative Team" was established in 2019, and its members are mostly middle-aged and elderly women from surrounding communities. Through the knitting skill training, these aunts who were originally lack of professional skills walked off the mahjong table, picked up the needle and thread, and became the "Panda Embroidery Mother" specializing in weaving cultural creations with the theme of giant pandas.

After five years of development, the knitting products produced by the "Panda Xiuniang Knitting Cultural and Creative Team" include four categories: doll, bag, pendant and daily necessities. With the growing reputation of the cultural and creative team, more and more people come to learn, and the number of members has grown to more than 100. At present, the knitwear of cultural and creative teams are mainly promoted and sold through offline tourist attractions and online live broadcast.
