The World'S First Brand Was Born.
Since the founding of the United States, the most successful commodity is probably Coca-Cola.
It came into being in a difficult era, but it was also an era of creation.
The invention of Coca-Cola is a combination of Pan Burton and the four weird people who have had imitation and other disgraceful experiences, but after all, they have devoted their wisdom and extraordinary spirit of collage.
Let's take a look at the way they have traveled.
Burton, an experienced pharmacist, was born in 1831 in the north city of Georgia, Georgia. He studied at the southern Georgia School of plant medicine at the age of 17.
After graduation, he became a "steam therapist" for a period of time. He went to Philadelphia for a year as a chemist, and then began his career as a pharmacist in Oglethorpe, Georgia.
The American Civil War broke out.
In May 1862, pan Burton joined the army as a lieutenant. In the last few small battles, he was shot while he was guarding the city bridge, and he was also chopped by a saber.
This life and death contest left a deep scar on Pan Burton's abdomen and chest.
But he recovered very quickly.
In November of 1865, Burton bought a lot of medicinal materials in New York.
In the next five years, pan Burton worked with local wealthy doctor Austin Walker to make a fortune.
But he always had no savings, and the money he earned was not used for experimentation, but for family members and friends.
At the end of the 1860s, Burton began experimentation and development of his patented products, including "globular plant syrup", "Queen's root plant essence" (a blood purification agent) and "Southern sweet wine" (a spice) - all of which are derived from local picking herbs.
Atlanta after the civil war brought an exciting whirlwind to business in the south.
In 1869, pan Burton gave up his good pharmacy business in Columbo and came to Atlanta to start a business.
It was very successful at first.
Together with his partners, he founded the largest drug trade mall in the city.
But in 1872, the hotel went bankrupt.
It was not until 1879 that he had paid off his old debts to spend his time in research and manufacture of new drugs.
Over the next few years, he invented queen Jiang Ling's hair dye, formula 47-11 rheumatism, three liver pills, Jiang Ling, lemon orange, and other forgotten drugs and drinks.
Pan Burton often sleepless nights and worked late into the night. A visitor later recalled that pan Burton had extraordinary energy.
Pan Burton, who served as a doctor and pharmacist, is a lifelong scholar.
He not only read the latest medical journals, but also read more and more international medical literature.
Over the years, he has devoted himself to compiling an encyclopedia of drugs.
It is not hard to imagine that in order to develop new patented drugs, he is not limited to local growing plants (such as "Queen's roots" and "globulus") and has begun to study more foreign medicinal materials.
Many imported drugs, which fascinated pan Burton, were first cheered by the masses as a panacea for all diseases, but they were soon accused of being the chief culprit of addictive drugs.
In 1876, Burton saw an article written by Sir Robert Christensen, the 78 year old British Medical Association president.
The old doctor said he had climbed the 3224 foot high Ben Worley mountain on an empty stomach by chewing the leaves.
This aroused pan Burton's interest, and he began to read all the information about the coca tree.
But Burton is not alone.
As early as 1880s, doctors and pharmacists have reported the use of cocaine, pointing out that its main alkaloid, cocaine, can cure opium and morphine addiction.
Manufacturers immediately responded to the production of coca tablets, ointments, sprays, subcutaneous injections, coca wines, coca strong liquor, coca soft drinks, coca powder, and even sharp pointed leaves and square cigars.
In 1885, "Coca-Cola" became popular. It was a lumpy chewing tobacco cake.
The most famous commercial beverage of cajo is "Wen Ma Li Ni", which is now forgotten.
The inventor is Angelo Mariani, a Corsican who has a strong entrepreneurial spirit.
In 1863, he began selling Bordeaux red wine that could be wrapped in claret.
The French kauka, which was first introduced to the market by Pan Burton in 1884, is a copy of Wen.
It was through improving cocaine that pan Burton invented Coca-Cola, so "Wen - Mary" was actually the ancestor of Coca-Cola.
The mixture of cocaine and wine has not only swept the entire continent, but also entered the US market. The United States is the most important selling city of the city. "Wen Ma Li Ni" swept the market, causing counterfeit and shoddy products to emerge in endlessly.
Some people use cocaine directly for cheap wine, resulting in bitter taste and stronger efficacy.
The French cocaine, Burton, is one of the many imitation products, but it is superior in quality.
In March 1885, when Burton visited the reporter, he made it clear that he had read the identification book of "Yizhi drink" by Ma Yali.
Like Mr Mary, he asked knowledgeable and regular professional figures to prove his wine.
"Scientists, scholars, poets, clergymen, lawyers, doctors and other mental workers are all the customers of this kind of mental enhancers," pan Burton told the fascinated reporters. "I believe that the medicinal liquor that is brewing is better than Mariani."
Burton said that his wine "contains African kola nuts and real Damia, which is brewed with pure wine", which is the addition of two ingredients to improve Mariani.
Pan Burton's Coca Cola advertisement has more American characteristics than that of Mary, and it is imposing.
He also plagiarized the advertisement of the French, claiming that his French cocaine was recognized by more than twenty thousand of the world's most knowledgeable medical staff.
When the patented drug suppliers and doctors are in high spirits for cocaine and cocaine, some physicians and media have already heard the alarm.
In 1886, a German doctor published a booklet which was later plated into a multinational language. He severely criticized cocaine and called it "the third disaster of mankind". Then his American counterparts also joined in attacking cocaine with him.
Meanwhile, the prohibition movement led by Pastor Sam Jones led to the prohibition order in Atlanta in November 1885.
Burton has decided to give up liquor as the main solvent and start experimenting with volatile oils of fruit flavors.
But pan Burton thinks they are all too bitter.
Although sugar can cover up bitterness, it turns into a sweet sweet drink.
In order not to be bitter nor greasy, he added citric acid.
Throughout the winter of 1885, he had been experimenting repeatedly in search of a satisfactory formula.
In December of this year, two northerners, Frank Robinson and David Doe, appeared at the door of Pan Burton. They were peddling along the streets to print two color presses.
They looked for opportunities everywhere and heard that pan Burton always seemed to be looking for new ideas and new partners, so he came to have a try.
After discussing Burton with old partner Edmund Holland, four people concluded: a new enterprise "Pan Bodun chemical company" was established.
Holland was the only investor, but the four were split shares.
Pan Burton shares in technology and laboratory, and Robinson and doy share their new color printing machines.
In the early spring of 1886, pan Burton experimentation with new Coca Cola and kola "Prohibition" drinks and sent them to the cold drinks and snacks Department of Jacob's pharmacy for trial sale several times.
When pan Lewis Newman's nephew Lewis Newman came to visit them from school, he also made a hearing for pan Burton.
Lewis Newman described the lab in 1886: "Uncle John's savings and money can be invested in the renovation and installation of the house."
I remember the most clear scenario was the step that made the filtration mixture "ripening" under vacuum. There were two big cauldron rolling sorghum and cane juice.
The paddle made of hazel bark is just like the paddle. When the solution is boiling, it stirs with it.
Then there are two steps of filtration and fermentation.
This heavy production method was soon abandoned by Pan Burton.
In April of 1886, pan Burton delivered an important speech at the annual meeting of the Georgia Medical Association as planned. But because a satisfactory prescription was almost "baked", he was reluctant to leave the laboratory. He sent his speech to someone else to read it.
In the article, he gave an academic introduction to caffeine and cocaine in detail and explained the history of the refining and using of the two drugs.
But pan Burton's real enthusiasm is cocaine.
He wrote: "there has never been a cure in the history of medicine that can become so prominent from obscurity in such a short time."
Burton's new product was finally born.
He needs a good name. It sounds interesting and enjoyable. Frank Robinson finally came up with the name "Coca-Cola", and we all applauded it, because it not only points out two main components, but also carries the rhymes.
The new drinks sold very well.
Pan Burton, who studied the formula day after day, passed the production baton to Robinson, and he should breathe for himself.
Robinson was busy brewing and put all his time into this kind of drink.
He guarantees production and sells with limited budgetary funds until he sells.
He realized that Coca-Cola should be promoted to a market with a dual function product: it is a stimulant for headache and depression, and a new cold drink with unique flavor.
In May 29, 1886, he made the first advertisement in the Atlanta daily, emphasizing its beverage characteristics: "Coca-Cola, tasty!"
Fresh!
Happy!
Vitality!
This trendy soda drink contains magical Kable leaf and famous kola nut characteristics.
The first appearance of "CA Cola" in advertising is printed form. Robinson has been designing handwritten trademarks throughout the winter, and in the June 16, 1887 advertisement, for the first time, he used the familiar font of italics today.
Compared with most of the advertisements at that time, Coca-Cola's advertising words were very short, creating the first step of modern advertising.
Its first adjective "tasty and refreshing" has almost become synonymous with Coca-Cola.
There are other reasons why Robinson's advertisement is short - more economical.
Because pan Burton and other shareholders have limited funds, the advertisements they advertised in newspapers are always fragmentary.
In the first year of the product, the advertising cost was only $150, although the cost was small, but the number of commercials Coca-Cola was quite impressive: the banner type waterproof tarpaulin billboard was one yuan each, and each tram car body advertisement was more than one yuan, each posters more than three yuan, and one yuan could print 1000 sample coupons.
Robinson quickly put a piece of tarpaulin billboard on the rain tent of Jacob's drugstore - this is the first sale advertisement, and the white background is reflected in the scarlet letter: "drink Coca-Cola, only 5 cents a cup."
Less than a year later, Coca-Cola's tarpaulin billboards boarded 14 cold drinks counters in Georgia.
Thousands of posters fly all over the street, and every tram in Atlanta is promoting him.
When Burton sold Coca-Cola for just two days, pan wrote her name to the Jacob drugstore, complaining, "a shareholder (preferably not mentioning his name) does not agree with Coca-Cola's sample drinking.
So please don't offer drinks free of charge.
The profit is too small to allow us to waste so much.
Nevertheless, Robinson persuaded PAM Burton to make money in the future and we must do so.
Robinson printed a lot of free coupons. He could freely enjoy drinks at local cold drinks counters. He also sent free tickets to potential customers by checking the Atlanta city telephone directory, and letting the mobile salesmen distribute free vouchers everywhere.
Robinson concluded that once these new customers tasted it, they would come back to buy more Coca-Cola.
He assured the cold drink counter that they must change their free coupons.
Although it was not until November 26, 1887 that the prohibition was terminated, Burton's sale of Coca Cola and Coca-Cola had been very popular.
In May 1, 1887, an article in the constitution newspaper said: "Coca liquor is sold 5 times a day (12 dozen per game). In recent weeks, the sale of Coca-Cola syrup has increased to 600 gallons, which is sold all over the United States.
A large number of orders came from all directions, and the testimonials provided by them were raging.
Though Atlanta newspapers undoubtedly exaggerate local products.
