Fan Min'S History Of Entrepreneurship: Starting From Receiving Fax
When the catcher was not alone, when he founded Ctrip in 2000, the 4 young people just wanted to be a listed company in the tourism industry.
8 years later, Ctrip has become the largest online travel booking platform in China, occupying half of the domestic market share.
Only one of Fan Min's 4 young entrepreneurs was fighting on the front line every day.
After leaving Ctrip, Ji Qi opened the Hanting chain hotel. After leaving Ctrip, Shen Napeng created a home chain hotel and sent it to the NASDAQ. Later, he became the founder of Sequoia Capital China Fund. Although Liang Jianzhang was also chairman of the board of directors of Ctrip, he was outside You Xuehai all the year round.
In fact, fan Min has long been able to retire, but he insists on working diligently as a professional manager.
In the afternoon of the end of 9 in 2008, the six floor of Ctrip network 99, Fuquan Road, Changning District, Shanghai, was in a small conference room with 10 square meters square. Reporters and Fan Min met face to face.
The 43 year old chief executive of Ctrip is quick thinking and detail oriented.
The air conditioning temperature of the room was adjusted to 23 degrees Celsius, but when a female colleague shivered, he immediately rose to raise the air conditioning temperature.
In early July this year, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council visited the Ctrip network in person.
Fan Min recalled: "Premier Wen's visit is not a simple look.
He visited our call center in person, listened to our work report, and finally put forward our expectations.
At this time, Ctrip has already had 8000 employees. Last year, it has served more than 20 million people. It has to process 120 thousand incoming calls and 50 thousand exhaled calls every day. The website has more than one million visitors per day.
Fan Min said that the operation direction of Ctrip represents an important format of modern service industry in Shanghai. Through the network technology and traditional industry grafting, finally achieved breakthrough progress.
The success of Ctrip is a good attempt to develop modern service industry. When Ctrip was just established, Fan Min made a speech to more than 30 employees of the company, which many people will never forget.
He said: "people should do something different in their lifetime, and have similar opportunities to never give up.
I can't promise that you will be rich with me in the future and enjoy Rong Huafugui, but I can promise that you can join me in making Ctrip the largest tourist website in the country.
If a person can really do such a thing, your life will be different from now on.
He is a man.
Wealth.
Fan Min, the chief executive of Ctrip, has been in the forefront of the Ctrip since joining the Ctrip in 2000. Fan Min has little knowledge of the founder of Ctrip.
In fact, in Ctrip's four founders, only Fan Min came from the tourism industry.
With his rich experience in the industry and his unique understanding of tourism, Ctrip has become the largest online travel booking platform in China.
In -1990, he received a master's degree in management from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. In March 1990, December, he worked in the Department of Surveying and mapping of Shanghai New Asia International Travel Agency in December, December. In -1992, Ms. -1987, assistant manager of the general manager of Shanghai New Asia Group Co., Ltd., -1996 year, was in Shanghai Helen Hotel Management Intern. She was appointed Deputy General Manager of Shanghai New Asia (Group) hotel management company. She was appointed Shanghai Travel Agency (Shanghai New Asia brigade) and general manager of mainland hotel. In June 1965, -1987 was born in Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1983.
The success of the company is due to the complexity of simple things. People in the industry agree that the business model of Ctrip is very simple.
But it is such a simple model, and later enterprises do everything possible to copy, but they can not copy the success.
What's the reason?
Fan Min explained, "Ctrip's entrepreneurs can make a simple matter complex and complicated to the details.
A simple thing to achieve the ultimate, perhaps this is Ctrip Travel Network stable online travel booking the first chair of the unique skills.
On the day of September this year, in the building of Ctrip headquarters in No. 99 Fuquan Road, Changning District, Shanghai, Fan Min said with great emotion, "you don't believe it when you say it. When we first started our business, we rented half a floor, a total of 200 square meters.
Liang Jianzhang and I don't even have desks. "
Today, Ctrip's investment of 20 million dollars covers the six storey building with a total construction area of more than 30 thousand square meters.
In 1999, Ctrip was founded in Shanghai.
This year is the time when the Internet is popular around the world. The 4 young people in Shanghai are also unable to hold back the impulse of youth and join hands in starting a business.
They believe that the emergence of the Internet will change an era. If we combine the Internet with the traditional tourism industry, we will get an explosive growth.
The 4 men are Liang Jianzhang, Fan Min, Shen Napeng and Ji Qi.
Fan Min has a vivid saying to describe the relationship between four people. He said: "this is like building a house, Ji Qiyou is passionate, can dredge the relationship, he goes to get approval and land, Shen Napeng is good at financing, he goes to find money; Liang Jianzhang understands IT, can explore business mode, he sets out the framework of the building; and I come from the tourism industry, are good at mixing cement and sand, making concrete to fill the framework."
According to Fan Min, in 1999, when the company was founded, there were only more than 30 people.
Shen Napeng and Ji Qi are usually present on the outside. He and Liang Jianzhang belong to the "underground party", because at that time they were still working in other companies, so they usually came back after work in the evening.
4 people meet each night in the company to discuss the development plan of the company.
Fan Min said, "because Ji Qi was mainly in charge of the outside world, his office was the largest, with more than 20 square meters.
Liang Jianzhang and I don't have a desk. When the 4 people have a meeting, they are in Ji Qi's office. "
In February 2000, Fan Min formally joined Ctrip.
Previously, he was deputy general manager of Shanghai New Asia (Group) hotel management company. The company was equipped with cars and drivers for him.
Fan Min gave up all of this. At the age of 35, he chose to start his own business again.
The first thing that Ctrip starts with is hotel reservations. In 2000, the call center was set up.
Later, air ticket booking and holiday products were gradually developed.
In the two quarter earnings report just released by Ctrip, the revenue from hotel booking is 196 million yuan, and the revenue from air ticket booking is 169 million yuan.
At present, the market share of Ctrip accounts for more than half of the domestic online booking.
The same is done for hotel reservations. Why does Ctrip's booking volume is very large, and the volume of business of other companies is not good. What's the mystery of this?
Fan Min drew an analogy: "the simplest example is that people who sell computers can sell well with the simple hardware and propaganda.
But tourism is not the same. There are too many details in the tourism product to stack up. If any details are out of the question, they will eventually be returned to the consumers' links, thus causing damage to the producers of the tourist products.
When Fan Min was put into use at the call center of Ctrip, he took out half an hour a day to listen to the phone, and randomly entered into any booking phone that the customer had put into Ctrip. He found that the operator was not able to reach the place where he answered the customer's questions, and immediately recorded it, specializing in analysis and focusing on rectification.
Fan Min revealed that Ctrip's request for the operator was no more than 180 seconds per phone, which means less than 3 minutes.
But in each order process, there are more than 20 "actions", requiring that every action can not be out of shape, which is very difficult.
"For example, a small reservation company has two or three business savvy salesmen. Even if you pick up the phone and check the hotel, you can have business volume.
If these salesmen change jobs, the company will be in trouble.
Ctrip's mode is to input all the hotels and air tickets information into the database, and conduct a serious training for the operator. Each person in the process of receiving calls and placing orders is just like the assembly line production of the factory. This simple mode seems simple, but duplication is very difficult.
In December 2003, Ctrip successfully landed on Nasdaq, the first second Chinese companies to list overseas after Sina and Sohu.
Fan Min recalled, because Ctrip initially set a clear goal, in the Internet business "burning money" tide, Ctrip rarely burned.
Before listing, a total of three financing, total financing amounted to $10 million.
But until the time of listing, the money was not spent.
And before the listing, the company has already made profits.
Fan Min said that in the United States, the successful listing of Ctrip is the biggest help to get financial support and brand recognition.
Fan Min, a veteran employee who has been following Mr. Fan Min for many years, has revealed that Ctrip has been profitable every quarter since its landing, and its profitability is higher than that of the Wall Street.
In August 2006, Fan Min was invited to open the market bell in Nashi because of the excellent performance of Ctrip in Nashi.
At 9:30 a.m. Eastern time on Friday, August 18, 2006, Fan Min, NASDAQ:CTRP CEO, was invited to ring the opening bell on the Nasdaq stock market in the US. This shows that Wall Street is highly optimistic about the development prospects of Ctrip.
According to the introduction, because of the need to close the market in the United States, the Nasdaq stock market actually has only more than 250 "bell ringing" opportunities every year, many of which are arranged for all kinds of politicians or good companies listed on the market. They have been listed in the Nasdaq stock market, and only recently they are well received by Wall Street analysts.
It is a rare honor for invited listed companies and individuals.
This is not the first time for Ctrip executives to "clock" in Nashi. In December 9, 2003, Ctrip was listed on Nasdaq, and its former CFO Shen Napeng had struck the opening bell.
Previously, only four companies in China, including Baidu, Focus Media, China Star micro and Sohu, had struck the opening bell in the Nasdaq market.
In May 28, 2008 (Beijing time), Ctrip CFO Sun Jie was invited again to ring the opening bell on the Nasdaq stock market in the United States.
In the development of air tickets, hotels and holiday businesses, Fan Min focused his attention on the business travel market.
In early 2006, Ctrip officially entered the business travel market.
The so-called business travel market, in fact, is the travel management of large companies, which used to be done by the financial department of the company.
But in foreign countries, specialized business travel companies have been developing these businesses very early.
Large enterprises outsource business travel to professional business management companies, which can not only make business travel easier, but also save a lot of travel expenses.
There is a "congenital" convenience for Ctrip to do business travel market, that is, there is initiative in the expense of hotels and air tickets.
Fan Min for example, for example, a company's staff from Beijing to Shanghai, there are more than 40 direct flights between the two daily flights, there are 3-4 discount tickets, there are 7-8 discount tickets, there are full price tickets.
For employees, if he is allowed to book tickets, he may choose to book full price tickets, which can be changed at any time; and for the company, he hopes to book a low price ticket.
After taking charge of the company's business, Ctrip will choose the appropriate discount tickets and suitable hotels according to the characteristics of each employee's business trip.
In the past year, the travel cost of Ctrip's management can save 15%-30%.. According to the forecast, the scale of China's business travel market is 100 billion yuan a year, and there are few companies currently operating this business. At present, the scale of the business is only 10 billion yuan per year.
Ctrip's current business customers include SONY, Coca-Cola, Ericsson and so on.
Fan Min disclosed that Ctrip's business travel business was officially launched although it only lasted more than 2 years, but it has become the fourth pole of Ctrip's growth.
Relying on the new service mode and high quality service, Ctrip's market share has reached the top three in the country.
Fan Min, CEO, from the Shanghai Office of the postgraduate student of Jiaotong University, first sent a fax to the travel agency.
From the most grass-roots jobs, he has always maintained a calm mind.
At present, Ctrip has 8000 employees.
Fan Min, chief executive of CEO, said that the development of private enterprises themselves is good.
