Han Mingyuan, A Chinese Industrialist, Is The Biggest Garment Factory In Bangladesh.
Han Mingyuan, a Chinese resident who has lived in Bangladesh for 37 years, has a medium-sized garment factory in Dhaka, which exports more than 15 million dollars annually. Han Mingyuan said in an interview with Xinhua news agency that his dream was to build a new Bangladeshi garment factory.
Han Mingyuan has a piece of land at the 30 kilometer north of Dhaka, where his new site is chosen. Han Mingyuan said that the founding ceremony of the new plant was held in 2006, but later the construction was suspended due to the lack of funds. He is currently negotiating loans with banks. Once the loan problem is solved, the new plant can be put into operation in about 3 years. He said that after the completion of the new plant, the output will be 5 times that of the present factory.
Han Mingyuan's clothing factory is called Swan garment factory. It is a 7 storey building with 1000 square meters of floor space. There are more than 2400 workers and 200 management personnel. The so-called factory is actually a company involved in clothing production and export.
Today, most of the 2400 workers live near factories. Han Mingyuan said that when he built his factory in 1985, there was still a vacant area nearby. Now the surrounding houses have been built. The growth of factories has led to local employment and economic development. With a worker feeding 5 families, the Swan garment factory solved at least more than 10000 people's eating problems.
The Swan clothing factory strictly implements relevant regulations of Bangladesh government, such as the implementation of the minimum wage system, at the same time, it also pays workers medical expenses, housing subsidies, overtime fees, and insurance for workers. According to the manager of the factory human resources department, most of the workers here are very satisfied with the job. Some workers have worked here for more than 10 years.
In addition to complying with the relevant government regulations, clothing factories must abide by the stipulations of European and American purchasers, such as prohibiting the employment of child labor, factories with doctors, nurses, mechanic, electricians, hydraulic workers, and baby rooms. If this standard is not met, buyers will not place orders.
At present, the Swan garment factory mainly produces jeans, producing about 25000 jeans per day. In the production workshop, there is a strict distinction between working procedures, and a pair of trousers must go through 55 processes before they can finally become finished products. In addition, the finished product should be sent to the washing house outside to be cleaned, washed into the buyer's request, then folded and packed.
Han Mingyuan said that in 1971, he emigrated to Bangladesh from Hongkong, China. He first worked in a restaurant, then opened a garage, and opened the first Chinese restaurant in China in 1982, the day cupboard restaurant.
According to him, before the 70s of last century, Bangladesh still had no garment export industry. After 1980, Europe and the United States looked at the cheap labor force in Bangladesh and turned their eyes to the garment industry. Han Mingyuan said that he was involved in the clothing industry. It happened that one day, some of the Hongkong guests came to the restaurant to ask why he did not make a clothing factory, and how much profit he had. He started to organize the clothing factory.
The original factory was located in the present place, but at that time it only rented a floor and employed more than 100 workers. Han Mingyuan said that factories always lose money at first, and they should use the money earned by restaurants to help factories. But all the way down to the late 90s, the clothing industry suddenly became popular, and his clothing business became better and better.
According to statistics, there are more than 4000 garment factories in Bangladesh and fourth of the total number of garments exported in the world. Last year, Meng made foreign exchange earning about 9 billion 300 million US dollars, accounting for 76% of the total volume of foreign exchange earned by Meng. At present, there are 2 million 500 thousand garment workers in Mencius, 85% of whom are women.
