Taizhou's Market Demand For Luxury Goods Has Spawned Smuggling.

    2010/4/22 11:13:00 44

    Luxury Goods

LV, PRADA, GUCCI... On the list of smuggling achievements, the author has recorded more than 70 kinds of international famous brand clothing, totaling over 24000 pieces, many of which are frequently up to five figures, and these international famous brands are worth up to 100 million yuan. How are they really false and how do they flow into Zhejiang's Taizhou market? Recently, I learned from the Hangzhou customs that the details of this super famous brand clothing smuggling case are unknown.

Why do international brand clothes catch up with Taizhou?

At the beginning of 2008, the customs and customs bureau of the customs and Customs Department of Hangzhou customs got a clue that some shops in Taizhou had sold a lot of cheap international famous brand clothing, and the source was suspicious from the source of Taizhou. In the subsequent secret investigation, the customs anti smuggling police targeted the famous clothing boutique line, the Taizhou warship economic and trade limited company and the Qian Ye clothing company 3 clothing stores in the high-end clothing circle of Taizhou. Although the shops in these 3 stores are not large, the decoration is not very sophisticated, but the clothes sold in the shop are all international brands without exception. They are rich in variety, LV, PRADA, D&G, GUCCI... Almost all the international clothing brands have been swept away. The popularity of the 3 stores is also very strong except for the local people in Taizhou.

       The city also has customers.

In a seemingly unattractive clothing store, so many top international clothing brands have been brought together, which makes the Customs Smuggling police wonder when they are surprised: are these international brands going to rush to Taizhou, a domestic three tier city? What's more, the anti smuggling police suspect that the price of the brand clothes sold by these clothing stores is far lower than that of the regular stores in Shanghai and Hangzhou, with an average of 20% to 25% lower. Take D&G as an example. A store with a price of 15800 yuan is sold at only 11225 yuan in these stores, which is 4000 yuan cheaper. A pair of shoes with a store price of 5800 yuan is only 4800 yuan here.

The price of big international clothing sold in regular channels can not be so low. Anti smuggling police speculated that the clothes in these stores were either fake or shoddy, or smuggled imported "parallel imports". With all sorts of questions, the anti smuggling police disguised themselves as customers to explore the reality in 3 stores. The salesmen in the store promise that the clothes sold in the shop are absolutely authentic. In order to determine the true and false, scouts also bought clothes from 3 stores and sent them to professional institutions for identification, which confirmed that these famous international brands were famous and their origin was in Europe.

Since it is a genuine product and the price is lower than that in the domestic market, then there is only one possibility - smuggling. Hangzhou customs anti smuggling bureau decided to organize Taizhou customs anti smuggling sub bureau to conduct an in-depth investigation.

Untie the "secret" in the suspicious carton.

The 3 businesses are the distribution centers of these famous brand clothes, and the only clues for the smuggling police to grasp. The Hangzhou customs anti smuggling bureau decided to take this as a breakthrough. The smuggler stood by the 3 firms nearby. It was soon discovered that 3 firms often received large cartons from some courier companies. The anti smuggling police speculated that these cartons might be the famous brand clothes sold in the store.

Along with the shipping address on these cartons, smuggler went down to Shenzhen and found a very ordinary apartment building. After several days of ambush around the apartment building, the smuggler finally solved the "secret" in the carton. It turned out that every once in a while, some suspicious looking people took large bags of clothes to the apartment building, then put them in different cartons, and finally sent them to Taizhou by express delivery companies. At the same time, the secret investigation of three clothing store owners Wang, Lee and Tao Mou is also in progress. The smuggling police found that the 3 people not only went to Hongkong frequently, but also had close ties with many clothing stores and "water customer" groups in Hongkong. At the same time, 3 people will go to the apartment building as soon as they arrive in Shenzhen. After nearly 7 months of hard investigation, the smuggling police basically grasped the criminal facts of three commercial banks and the "Shui guest" group conspiring to smuggle in high-end clothing from Hongkong.

In November 13, 2009, Hangzhou customs anti smuggling police launched a centralized arrest operation in Shanghai, Shenzhen and Taizhou 3 places. From the suspect's home, 3 businesses and Shenzhen "Shui guest" group dens, seized 8 suspects, seized over 24000 kinds of high-end clothing, and a large number of documentary evidence such as "water customer" group shipping documents.

As a matter of fact, since 2005, the 3 bosses of "Guan Yu", "warship" and "Qian Ye" have gone to Hongkong several times to buy high-grade clothing from more than ten brands of clothing suppliers, and sometimes they are commissioned to buy them from Italy. After that, the 3 bosses, or carrying them, or contacted the head of the water group, smuggled the high-end clothing purchased by "water customers" into the market, then shipped them to three firms through the domestic express company for sale.

The demand for luxury goods has spawned smuggling.

In recent years, Hangzhou customs has seized many luxury smuggling cases such as watches and bird's nest, so why luxury goods have repeatedly become the "rocking Qian Shu" in the eyes of smugglers?

"Consumer demand for these luxury goods is an important driving force for such smuggling." Zhou Jun, an official involved in case investigation, said that the huge profits of luxury smuggling led criminals to take risks.

A survey by McKinsey shows that nearly 18 thousand Chinese billionaires and 195 million people can afford luxuries. According to the World Luxury Association survey data, as early as 2007, Chinese luxury consumption accounted for 18% of the global market share. And the rapidly expanding Chinese luxury market has become a battleground for global luxury brands. Take LV brand as an example. In 1992, when LV opened the first exclusive store in Xpu Ha Palace Hotel in Beijing, the number of new stores increased slowly. But in the past two years, it has suddenly increased speed. It has formed the scale of 29 stores in 25 cities in China, and has also fallen in the two or three tier cities such as Changsha, Urumqi, Xiamen, Ningbo and Wenzhou.

The exuberant demand for luxury goods has made high-end smugglers "unscrupulous", constantly stimulating the desire of criminals to smuggle luxury goods, and the huge profit margins behind the sale of high-end clothing are more and more prosperous.

According to China's existing regulations, clothing import tariffs are generally between 10 and 16%, value-added tax is 17%, and smuggled imports completely escape. For example, if the store sells a D&G jacket at a price of 15800 yuan, the purchase price of the three stores will be around 7000 yuan. If the normal import is required to pay taxes of more than 2200 yuan, smuggling is only required to pay 40 yuan per kilogram for "labor cost". Such a garment sells 11225 yuan in Taizhou store, though it is several thousand yuan cheaper than the franchised store, but it still has a huge profit margin due to the high cost of management, labor and so on.

Recently, the intermediate people's Court of Taizhou has held a hearing on the case, and the judgment will be announced on a selective date.
