Tsinghua University Academy of Fine Arts was founded in 1956. It is the most influential school of design in Chinese art colleges.

According to the ranking of the Ministry of education's degree center, Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University ranks first among all the art schools in China.

It is also China's only three consecutive time to enter the world's 60 best design institute, ranking seventh in the world's best design institute.

For many years, it ranks first in China's design profession.

In the past 56 years, Academy of Fine Arts, Tsinghua University, has pioneered the design of China. It is the founder and pioneer of Chinese design, representing the highest level of design in China.

Tsinghua University Academy of Fine Arts, the predecessor of the central technology Academy of Fine Arts, was founded in 1956. It was approved by the Ministry of education of People's Republic of China. In November 20, 1999, the central technology Academy of Fine Arts was formally incorporated into the "Renji". It is now a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary and high-level art design and product that has a certain impact on both domestic and foreign countries.

The teaching idea is to broaden students' knowledge, pay attention to the cultivation of students' innovative spirit and creativity, strengthen the professional basic teaching, strive to improve the comprehensive quality and ability of students, pay attention to studying the excellent traditional arts at home and abroad, focus on academic exchanges, timely introduce and study the latest art and art design ideas and methods abroad, and advocate a rigorous style of learning, integrating theory with practice and seeking truth from facts: emphasizing the design for life service, the combination of design and process production, art and science; cultivating students' awareness of the trend of market consumption and paying attention to the changing trend of cultural life; creating an active academic atmosphere and a good educational environment.

The Institute now has nine departments, namely, the Department of art history, the Department of art and design of dyeing and weaving, the Department of ceramic art and design, the Department of industrial design, the Department of environmental art and design, the Department of decoration design, the Department of Arts and crafts, the Department of painting, the Department of sculpture and the Department of adult education.

The major is as follows: Art and design major (including dyeing and weaving art design, costume art design, ceramic art design, graphic design, commercial photography, interior art design, landscape art design, metal art design, lacquer art); advertising specialty (advertising design); industrial design major (including information design, product design exhibition design, pportation modeling design); painting specialty; sculpture specialty; art design specialty; fine arts specialty.

All the above subjects have the right to grant bachelor's and master's degrees.

The Institute has a group of famous art designers and art educators, art designers, artists and scholars. There are more than 220 full-time teachers, including 56 professors and 98 associate professors.

There were 1813 students, including 1187 undergraduates, 134 postgraduates (110 master students, 24 PhD students), 55 overseas students, and 437 students continuing education.

The college has strong teachers, rich teaching experience and excellent teaching quality.

The major of the college has made remarkable achievements both at home and abroad in the practice of national key art design creation.

Since the reform and opening up, teachers and students have received over 200 international and domestic awards, including more than 300 teaching materials and academic monographs. Over 100 teaching materials and audio-visual lectures have been broadcast at the central and Beijing TV stations, and have completed more than 200 national and international major art designs.

The school has established friendly relations with Tokyo, University of the Arts, Tama Art University, Chicago Art Institute, Massachusetts Institute of art and design, Georgia University of the United States, College of Visual Arts, Helsinki art and Design University, South Korea Dong A University, and French National Institute of decorative arts, and invited more than 600 artists, professors and scholars from twenty countries, such as Europe, America, Australia and Asia, to give lectures or academic exchanges.

Awarded the famous Japanese painter Hirayama Kaoruo, German famous industrial designer Lehman, Chinese American, famous scientist Li Zhengdao, famous painter Ding Shaoguang and famous Japanese industrial designer Hirano Takuo as Honorary Professor, and awarded other countries and regions renowned experts and scholars as visiting professors.

The college has "Hirayama Kaoruo scholarship" and "Fenghua scholarship". It also has the "Zhang Guangyu Art Award", "Teacher Award Fund" and "Lvsi Art Design Education Award Fund".

The Institute purchased two sets of creative studios in Paris Art City, France, to provide teachers with the conditions for further study and study in Europe.

At present, the college is applying for the National Key Laboratory of social sciences.

The Institute consists of three branches, namely, design, fine arts and history, a training center.

The design division consists of dyeing and weaving art design department, ceramic art design department, industrial design department, environmental art design department, decoration art design department and information art design department. On 19565 May 21, the State Council of People's Republic of China formally approved the establishment of the central craft Academy of Fine Arts.

The faculty is composed of professional teachers from the East China branch of China Central Academy of Fine Arts (Academy of Fine Arts, The China Academy of Art, Zhejiang), the Department of Applied Arts, the Department of Applied Arts and China Central Academy of Fine Arts, and the experts from overseas.

1989 the Institute has established friendly inter school relations with more than 20 universities, including Tokyo University of the Arts, Japan's Tama University of fine arts, the American Academy of art, Academy of Fine Arts of the United States, the American Academy of Arts, the United States Georgia State University, the New York Institute of Art, the Finland Helsinki art and Design University, the National Institute of decorative arts of France, the school of Arts and crafts in Stuttgart, Korea, and so on. The famous American Chinese scientist Li Zhengdao, Japanese famous painter Yu Fu, German famous industrial designer Lehman, Chinese American famous painter Ding Shaoguang, and Japanese famous industrial designer Hirano Takuo are honorary professors of the college.
