In general, the problem of seedling emergence or poor seedling emergence caused by seed problems can also be remedied by replanting or replanting seedlings. But this year, due to continuous drought and rain, soil moisture is poor, water sources are relatively scarce, and congenital conditions are insufficient, and the quality requirements for seeds are even higher.

To select seeds, we must first select the seeds that have been approved and matched with cotton varieties, and require good maturity and high germination rate. Secondly, we must purchase the seeds produced by the regular enterprises and complete the three certificates. We should be optimistic about the description and ask for the purchase of seed invoices. Three, we should choose sunny days for 2-3 days before planting 15 days, so as to break the dormancy of seeds and promote germination and seedling emergence.

Excavating water sources to make soil moisture and preserve soil moisture

The cotton planting areas in our province are mainly distributed in three major areas: North Shandong (East), Northwest Shandong and Southwest Shandong.

In the southwest of Shandong Province, there are many seedlings for pplanting, and little water is needed during seedling raising. In the north of Shandong and eastern Shandong, most of them are direct seeding cotton fields, and there are more cotton fields in saline alkali soil.

Therefore, we should fully tap the source of water, make good soil moisture before planting and preserve soil moisture.

If there is water, we should seize the opportunity to create soil moisture.

Theoretically, it is generally the best time to make soil moisture 20 days before planting.

Considering the continuous drought and less rain this year, the water source is relatively tight, it should be made in time to make moisture in the local water source, and rake the moisture in time.

No water pouring condition is recommended.

A month or so before planting, the soil will be covered with plastic film, then the plastic film will be covered, and both sides of the plastic film will be compacted.

This method can significantly reduce surface evaporation and water loss, maintain soil moisture, and has significant effect on cotton planting in arid and saline alkali areas. Especially after local small-scale precipitation or after soil moisture, plastic film mulching effect is better and worth popularizing.

In previous years, cotton planting was mainly based on temperature factors, and seeds began to sow as long as the temperature reached.

In addition to considering the temperature factors this year, we should pay more attention to the soil moisture condition. If the temperature is up and the moisture content is insufficient, we suggest cotton farmers to wait. If the soil moisture content is OK, but the temperature is slightly worse, we can also consider planting and increasing the seeding rate.
