Indonesian workers demand that the wage level be raised to the KHL of the national wage Council, which may have a negative impact on Indonesian labor-intensive industries, including textiles and clothing.
In Indonesia, the national wage Council is a three party body composed of three representatives of trade unions, governments and employers.
Based on the survey of 48 economic components, the Council put forward the correct requirement of living standards (KHL).
The minimum wage (UMP) and minimum wages of districts and municipalities are decided by the governor of each state according to the proposal of the wage Council.
Mr. SofjanWanandi, President of the APINDO, said that the minimum wage turmoil in Indonesia would impede the recruitment of workers from formal and informal enterprises, while negatively affecting the welfare of workers in informal enterprises. The workers in informal enterprises constituted 70% of the total workforce.
